WALK SCORE It may come as a surprise, but in an increasingly car-dependent world a walkable neighbourhood isn’t that hard to find. Walk Score is a website dedicated to helping buyers locate a home with just the right amount of walkability. Cities all over the world, as well as specific addresses within cities, are given a ranking based on accessibility to amenities by foot. Locations are given scores and awarded titles such as “Walker’s Paradise,” “Very Walkable,” “Somewhat Walkable” and “Car- Dependent.” According to the site, “access to public transit, better commutes, and proximity to the people and places you love are the key to a happier, healthier and more sustainable lifestyle.” Currently, Walk Score is available in Canada, the United States and Australia and the site has also ranked the world’s largest 3,000 cities. Walk Score releases a yearly list of the most walkable cities, with the 2016 top Canadian winners being Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.
