Newsletter

Dear Frenchman’s Creek Ladies,

Since it is August already it means that it is almost time to be thinking about the new golfing season at Frenchman’s Creek which will be a wonderful season of Ladies Golf. This annual FCLGA newsletter (which should be kept for future reference) contains the schedules for Ladies Field Days and Major Tournaments for both 18-holers and 9-holers as well as the dates for Member/Guests, interclub and our terrific Nine Wine and Dine events. Your FCLGA tournament committee together with Robert Bruno, Director of Golf, assisted by Billy Burke and Rich Luchini, Head Golf Professional, has worked hard to create an exciting season of varied formats, keeping some old favorites and adding a few new ones. We welcome all Frenchman’s Creek Ladies to join us whether you are a “seasoned” golfer or have just taken up this challenging and rewarding sport called “golf”. Please send your completed application form together with your check for dues in the envelope which is enclosed for your convenience. See you on the golf course!

LADIES GOLF ASSOCIATION 2014-2015

FCLGA Members,

Our Major Tournaments will be as follows: The Ladies Eclectic Tournament will be held on Tuesday, December 9 th and Thursday, December 11 th . The Rain Date for this event will be Tuesday, December 16 th . Member/Member – Round 1 will be held on Tuesday, January 6 th ; Round 2 on Thursday, January 8 th ; Round 3 on Tuesday, January 13 th and the Finals on Thursday, January 15 th . Our Rain Date for this event will be Tuesday, January 20 th . The President’s Cup will be played on Tuesday, February 10 th and Thursday, February 12 th with a Rain Date of Tuesday, February 24 th . This year we will have a Mini Major Tournament, Lions and Lambs , on Tuesday, March 3 rd and it should be one of the most fun events of the year, playing with a partner whose handicap is 6 shots different from yours (greater or lesser). Try it. We think you will like it.

The Ladies Club Championship is our MOST important event of the year and we hope that everyone will consider signing up so we can have a competitive field. PLEASE, all the winners from the season’s major tournaments should DEFINITELY sign up. The dates for the Ladies Club Championship will be Thursday, March 12 th for Round 1; Round 2 on Tuesday, March 17 th ; Round 3 on Thursday, March 19 th and the Finals will be held on Saturday, March 21 st . We will have an awards presentation that afternoon for both Men’s and Ladies’ Club Champions @ 4:00 pm in the 19 th hole. We hope that everyone will come and join us to support our most important event and congratulate all of our winners.

The 18 Hole Ladies will continue to play our RED/GREEN Combination Tees and the ladies playing “9” is Enough will play from the GREEN tees. Please make sure to post all scores whenever and wherever you play a round of golf. Our professional staff will help in any way they can to make sure that you are entering your score properly. Here is the EQUITABLE STROKE CONTROL table that we need to follow when entering a score:

Course Handicap

Maximum Score on any Hole

9 or less

Double Bogey

10-19 20-29 30-39 40-up

7 8 9

10 It is very important to have an accurate handicap to make your golf more enjoyable and a fair experience for everyone. We have had some problems with scores posted from the incorrect tees and for the incorrect amount of holes. You need to take the time to post your scores properly in order to compute the correct handicap for you. If you have any issues or questions about this process PLEASE, make sure to ask for help from one of our professional staff. Enclosed is your FCLGA membership application. Please fill it out and mail it back in the enclosed envelope with your check for $150 or $155 to be included in the HOLE IN ONE CLUB ( see page 12 for details). Please be sure to include your email address so we can make sure we have all updated addresses. Your dues go a long way: Opening and Closing Days luncheon with gifts; Prize money for all winners on Ladies Days; Birdie Balls; and Trophies for Major Tournament winners. Please send it back ASAP. Please email me if you have questions or golf issues. I look forward to a wonderful season….. I know it will be!!

9-HOLERS 2014-2015

Dear 9-Holers,

As your “9” is Enough Chairperson, I would like to welcome back all of our “9” is Enough lady golfers and our new members. Last year was a great success and we will continue to try and make your Tuesday morning Ladies Day golf better and better. This is the Flighting Format that we followed last year and we will continue to follow along with adding a “Scramble”, “Step Aside Scramble” and a “Shamble” formats here and there throughout the year. GROUP A: will play the same format tournament as the 18-holers but adapted for the 9-holers. GROUP B: for those choosing not to participate in the above, you will play the “Scramble” formats. It will be possible to switch from one group to the other whenever you choose to do so. GROUP C: “Rookies” will play at 9:30 and will have their own flight that will be Non Competitive. This group is made up for our upcoming women to play in an organized group to get familiar with the Ladies Golf Association and feel comfortable playing without the pressure of competition . There will be a separate sheet for 9-holers to sign up for Ladies Day. It is of utmost importance to post your score in the computer in the Golf Shop each time you play, in order to establish a proper handicap. With the current inclusion of several former 18-holers in the 9-hole group, and more to come, it becomes essential to enter your score so that groups will exist with golfers of similar abilities and ensure a fair game for all. PLEASE make sure to enter your scores from the correct tees and the proper of amount of holes. If you have any problems with doing so, anyone of the Golf Shop staff will assist you. Check-in time is 9:00 am. Please be prompt so we can get started as soon as possible. SHOULD YOU NEED TO CANCEL PLEASE DO SO AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. This will eliminate any confusion in the morning when checking in all the players and placing them in the appropriate groups. For those who can stay for lunch, we encourage you to join one of the large tables reserved upstairs. A relaxing lunch cures anything that precedes it, as well as providing a hospitable forum for bragging. I’ll be looking forward to playing together this season and will be available to hear your constructive criticisms, if any. The aim of the FCLGA is to afford a most satisfying golf experience – one that can be enhanced by the cooperation of all of us.

With best wishes, Joan Barovick

FCLGA RULES TO PLAY 2014-2015

1. Cancellation after signing up for Ladies’ Day must be done before Monday at 12 o’clock noon. 2. You must check in on Ladies’ Day before 8:10 am to help the pro staff organize and make changes if necessary. This will help eliminate confusion and stream- line the foursome. 3. If you are a NO SHOW for two Ladies’ Days, you will NOT be allowed to play in the next Ladies’ Day. 4. Any member of the FCLGA who decides after checking in for play on Tuesday, or for any sponsored FCLGA event, that she does not want to play in her assigned group, will be disqualified for breach of etiquette as suggested under Rule 33-7 of the USGA. 5. See By-Law Article 3, Section 4 – Tournament Eligibility. This By-Law will be enforced and also becomes part of the adopted rules. 6. There is an 8 stroke maximum handicap between partners in all Major Tournaments where partners are necessary to participate in the Tournament. 7. There is a (2) year limitation on playing with the same partner in all Major Tournaments; and each participant may play with the same partner in one (1) MAJOR Tournament only each season. 8. All ties of Major Tournaments will be broken by a SUDDEN DEATH PLAYOFF beginning on Hole #1 of the course played. 9. If a person receives a letter due to habitual slow play, that person may go before the Grievance Committee which in turn will decide what action should be taken. 10. If a player manipulates her score to influence her USGA Handicap Index, the Handicap Committee shall adjust or withdraw her USGA Handicap. 11. An increase in a USGA Handicap Index shall NOT be granted because a player is temporarily off her game or has discontinued play. However, an increased handicap MAY be given for temporary disability once a doctor’s slip attesting the disability is obtained. 12. There shall be absolutely no use of cell phones or other electronic audio device(s) permitted on Tuesday Ladies’ Days and all Major Ladies’ Tournaments. Penalty: loss of hole in match play and a two stroke penalty in metal play. Exception: a player may call a golf professional if a ruling is necessary during a tournament.
