From theEditor… TheClub is off to agreat start with some really funweekends behind us already. The recent KidsDaywas a great success, aswell as the ABYASpringDinner Dance, Memorial Day, and the 4 th of July celebration. Thank you, members for your thoughtfulness in accommodating theWindsor Yacht ClubRendezvouswhoattended NCYC. I am looking forward towhen theweather starts heatingup! The first weekendwaswarm, but with the past fewweekendsmuch cooler, I’m hoping for aMichigan ‘heat wave’ to spring into action andwarm up theNCYC swimmingholeand surroundingwater ways. AFan-Out was recently emailed regarding upcomingWeekendOD’s looking for additional support. If you have not signedup for your work hours yet or would like to volunteer, please contact Randy Pagel. Please look inside for upcomingevents such as theCalendar of Events, NorthChannel Downs, Club IslandRendezvous, August ItalianDinner, and aSpecial VisitorGuest Pass offer.

See youon the Island,

Brent Malik Director, Publications

“we can’t control thewind, but we can direct the sail…”

It’s finally uponus, theBoater’sTime of Year! Highwater, sunny skies and temperaturesabove theperspirationpoint. You can still get a caseof the ‘BlueLips’ with staying in thewater abit too longbut I’m sure that will comearound toogivenanothermonthor so. Kudos toR/CChuckandSandi Stroh formakingmea believer in the Easter Bunny. Thesehard-workingmembershostedKid’sDay this year for NCYCanddida fantastic jobof it! I was almost resigned to not havingaKid’s program this year. Once somethinggoesby the wayside, it’s very hard to re-establish. Thank youChuck andSandi formakingmy dream come trueaswell as bringingsmiles to those young, bright faces that came to join in thisEvent.

Another happeningat theClub recentlywas one cloaked indarknessand secrecy. One that had limitedaccess to it anda sinister tone to thosewho inquiredwithout having theproper physical credentialsnecessary to join. Ah yes, wherewasEEOCwhen youneeded them?Of course I’m talkingof theannual LadiesWeek takingplaceat NCYC. I understand that it was a resounding successandall attending thoroughlyenjoyed themselves. Thank you CommodoressBeverly, KaySmith, LindaBurris, RaeAnnWhyardandYvonneMurray are onlya few ingiving their timeandenergy to secureaweek of relaxationandcomfort to the hard-working ladiesof NorthChannel. This is all onlyhearsay, mind you. I didn’t have the credentials to attendeither. TheFourthof July is fast-approachingand I hope that whatever youplanondoing, be safe andhaveanenjoyableHoliday. If I don’t see youon the Island, enjoy your familiesand friends and the celebrationof our country’s Independence. Let us not forget that somany of our young menandwomenare investing somuchof their lives toensure thiswonderful life that we are blessedwith. As this year unfolds, many of our Clubactivitiesare comingup for us toenjoy. Most recent is theNorthChannel Downs hostedby theAncientMariners. What these folks havedonewith this activity is phenomenal! Thehugedent that they put in thedebt is something that a thank you is just not sufficient. I would like to seeall of you therenot only for the fun-time it presents but thegreat cause it supportsas a result of it.We’re startingour ClubRendezvous thismonth thanks to thehardwork of Fleet Captain IanBlackburnandMariePepin. Please join inwith someof these. IanandMariehaveput a lot of time andeffort in theplanningand I’m sure the great timeswill followbecauseof it. July andBoatinggohand-in-handandwith that visitors coming toNCYC abound. ThismonthAll PointsYC, JeffersonBeachYCandPut-In-BayYC will be stopping inwithWindsor YC just having left at theendof June. We’vealso invited Poker Run stops by JohnnieLega’sandWertzWarriors. I’mproudof showingour Cluboff to these visitors and they, in turn, appreciateour hospitality. Our Boardof Directors hasbeen attentive inplanningandapproving these invitations soas to not infringeuponour membership’senjoyment of theCluband its facilities.

I have tomake specialmentionof a recent weekend that I was in attendanceat theClub. The weekendwas that of June27and theODwasP/C JohnandShellyDickson. Theweather that Friday eveningwas gorgeouswith sunny skies and light breeze.Windsor Yacht Clubwas in to visit withabout 20boats. P/C Johndidaphenomenal job inguidingboat traffic to appropriate wells to tie-up for theweekendat the same time keeping inmind theneedsof our own members and their desire for well space. With agoodamount of Guests aswell asMembers, theClubwas happy… theBoaterswerehappyandP/C JohnasClubManagerwas happy. Unexpectedly,DNRwasn’t. A controlled (?) burnwas in theworks onDickenson Island. Disastrous consequenceswere soon to follow this ‘controlledaction’. In theend, a thick layer of ash soonenveloped theClubhouse, Islandgrounds, BoatsandHarbors. In trying to find tools to start a cleanupof thismess, I discoveredP/CJohnalreadyhardat work clearingash fromBoats,Walkways andClubhouseareas filledwith thismess. Betweenmanaging theClub, directingour Visitors anddealingwith this disaster I wanted tomakementionof theseefforts that went far beyondanythingexpected. P/C John, thank you for your efforts and concern for thisClubof ours. ThankYou!

So, don’t bea stranger… comeout andenjoy this IslandParadise that weall Enjoy!

Let TheGoodTimesRoll,

JohnAnderson NCYCCommodore2014

Thanks JD for showing theNCYChospitality.

During theweekendWYCwas here, and throughout the season, I havenoticedmany member boatsnot flying theNCYC burgee.Withmanynewmembers this year and last, it is important thatmembersboats canbe identifiedby theOD. Let’s encourageanyonenot displaying their burgee to pleasedo so in the future. Please remember theWeekManager orWeekendOD is in chargeof the Island. Compliance of all ClubPolicy is charged to eachmember. Nomember shouldbebehind thebar or running the fin runnerwithout permission from theWeekManager orWeekendOD. The time is coming for nominations for the2015Boardof Directors andRear Commodore. Please consider taking thenext step, it is truly a rewardingexperience. Member of the Month

Diane French The Board of Directors has selected Diane French asmember of themonth. With amembership number like 854, amember for 33 years, she has consistently showed us her genuine care, generosity, and dedication to the club. This time she outdid herself with the article she so artistically crafted for Thumb Print News. The article truly showed North Channel in the best light possible to the outside world. Whichwill likely be inviting some of them in for a look andmaybe amembership? Diane is truly an asset to the club andwe thank her for all her endless support.

We are proud to have her as part of our NCYC family!

Commodore’sComments:

Commodore, JohnAnderson

Many thanks toall of you for aGREATCLUBopening. Itwas fantastic andone that I'll cherish formanyyears to come. Forme, and youaswell, thepace for doingClubbusiness should slow down considerably. We'veplannedand set things inmotionduring the first part of this year. Let's enjoy the fruitsof our efforts andhaveagood time the rest of this season. We still need toencourageadditionalmembership. That's something very important toour success andour ability to sustainwhat thisClubexpects fromus. We, all of us, have to showour leadership inparticipating inevents andactivitiesplanned. Pleaseencourage your friends to joinus for eventsor rendezvous' during the season. Itmakes it thatmuchmoreenjoyable for everyoneand compliments thosewhohaveworked sohard to showus somegoodentertainment. Let's try tokeepaheadsuponwhat ourmembershave to sayaboutNorthChannel. We'renot theonlyoneswanting to improve thewaywedo things. I'll bet there's a lot of good ideasout there. We just need to listen. Wehadagreat openingweekendanda touching flag raising ceremony, followedbya full harbor for theABYA SpringDinnerDance. Itwas agreat turnout and verybeneficial toNCYC. I would like to thankABYA for their attendanceand look forward tohosting theevent againnext year. Aswehead into theheart of the summer, let'smake surewekeepaneyeonour budgets. It is important to staywithinour budget inall areas, but it is also importantwe completeasmany items aspossible to keepupon themaintenanceof our beautiful clubhouse andgrounds. It isour duty topromote continuous improvements, making surewedo everythingwe can topreservewhatwehaveandmake it bettermoving forward. With that being said, oneareaweneed to look for improvement isour current PAand speaker system. Everyyearwe seem to run intoproblemswithour sound system. This year onceagain wehadmemberswho complained they couldnot hear at theGeneralMembershipMeeting, andat the FlagRaisingCeremony. Themicrophone kept cuttingout. Iwould like to suggestwe takea lookat correcting this systemonceand for all. Iwill gather informationandget some ideas from themembershipandbring this informationbackat a futureboardmeeting. Another areaof concern is thedock runningaroundour island. Wehadamember tripand fall on thedockonopeningweekendalong thewalkwaynear theBoatique. This area iswhere the deckboards aremountedover the cementwalkwayandeveryyear seem to "buckle" and come loose. We should look into redoing this areawithPVCdecking thatwill notwarpor patio bricks. OLDBUSINESS

Topic #1 Frank discussed the financial profile of the club. Last year, we restructured our two loans intooneand, at the current rateof payment, that loan shouldbepaid for in24 months. Commodore John and Frank conducted a review over the last fewmonths, of the Club's ability to adequatelymeet its short term financing requirements. The review identified five principal sources of funding. Following the review, it was determined thatNCYCmaybe limited in itsability tomeet short time financingneeds. Asa result, we discussed our interest in exploring a possible broadening of NCYC financing capabilities with First Merit bank. Frank and the Commodore emphasized the implementation of any short term financing mechanism should be viewed as a financial safety net and would be solely to satisfy potential short term financing needs; it should not be viewed as additional spending authority. Frank pointed out that spendingauthority isgovernedbyourannualbudgetingprocessandmembership approval. Thebankhas offered theClub a lineof credit of $65,000. Thiswouldhelp theclub to fund thosenecessaryemergencyprojects that comeup from time to time. They informed thebank that theywoulddiscuss thisproposalwith theboardandget backwith them. Frankwill take theproposal to the FinanceCommittee for their input.

Topic #2 The reduced initiation feewill be cancelled as of today, June10, 2014. Initiation fee will resumeat $1,100.

Topic #3 A discussionwas held on shade for the East Harbor. Due to the cost of the tents, it was suggested that asof this time, tohavemoreeventson theEastHarborunder the blue tent. Amorepermanent solutionwill bediscussedat a later time.

Topic #4

Member of theMonth: Motion: Moved by RC Chuck Stroh to nominate Diane French as Member of the Month for themonthof June. SecondedbyPCDonVanover. RC Chuck Stroh to write thearticle. MotionCarried. Goodof theOrder: PCHughVestal stated that the language at thebar is gettingout of hand. Theprofanity at the bar is drivingmembers out of the bar at night. There is also a lot of complaints about the loudmusic at night. Remember that all members should be respected. The OD has the final say on the volume of the music. Also, members should remember that theyare responsible for their ownmess and that of their guests. These issues will be brought to theRulesCommittee for review. RC Chuck and Sandy Stroh are talking to several people as well as the kids in the kids room to get some ideas of what they would like to see in there to make it more attractive for the kids. Thegames are old and need to be changed or fixed. Discussion followed. Pat Carroll talked about an orientation for newmembers on the rules of the club. Also anorientation forweekendOD's andweekmanagers. Discussion followed. Thiswill be discussedagainat a futuremeeting. Ian indicated that there is a garbage problem on the island. Don Reiss stated that he ordered a larger dumpster. He said that a big problemwith the dumpster is that the cardboard boxes need to be broken down to make more room in the dumpster. Pat suggested we look into selling our cardboard. Research will be done on the recycle of the cardboard.

NCYCRegularMeetingMinutes Page8of 8

BrianMalik led adiscussionon the sound system. Brianhas access toanew system that is still in the box that would serve our needs. Motion: Moved by Bob Carnaghi to purchase this system for $500.
