Ethical Case 1

You have been the case manager for your client Mary for over 2 years. She was recently referred to a squalor program to assist with her living conditions. You are attending an interagency meeting and her case comes up for discussion.

Identify and list the possible ethical dilemmas for a Case Manager using the CMSA National Code of Ethics for Case Management as your guide.

Ethical Case 2

You have been the case manager for Reginald, an elderly man who lives alone with no family. Reginald dies and leaves you, and two other workers involved in his care, $100,000 each. You and your colleagues did nothing to influence this decision however you have all attended training facilitated by your employer and signed an agreement about receiving gifts from clients. Identify and list what parts of the CMSA National Code of Ethics for Case Management are relevant to this scenario.

Ethical Case 3

You discover that your client Sarah is falling at night and sometimes lies on the floor until the morning care worker arrives. She has made the care worker promise not to tell anyone as she is fearful of going to hospital due to her past experiences and would rather stay on the floor. When you discuss this with Sarah she shows you her advance care directive that clearly states she is not to be transferred to hospital.

What are your responsibilities as a Case Manager with reference to the CMSA National Code of Ethics for Case Management? Record your findings.
