Golf Operation Update: The Golf Professional Staff is excited to begin the 2015-2016 golf season. We look forward to the return of our Frenchman’s Creek members. We

are eager to get the season off to a successful start. The Golf Professional Staff is lead by Frenchman’s Creek PGA Director of Golf, Robert Bruno, PGA Head Professional, Rich Luchini and our Assistant Professionals. Rocco Panzitta, Luis Leon, Jeff Sullivan, Chris Horn and Todd Kitchen have worked diligently throughout the summer to make this season one of the best that we ever have had. The North & South Golf Courses Summer Maintenance Program has moved along smoothly. The grass is maturing beautifully in the fairways and rough along with the tift-eagle green complexes. The new Short Game Practice Area has also matured and is ready for you to improve your short game skills. Practice your chipping, pitching, bunker play, as well as a variety of uneven lies. We are confident that the membership will be impressed with the North & South Golf Courses condition upon your return. We swing into a full tournament schedule starting in October. The Men’s and Ladies Opening Days will be held the first Tuesday and Wednesday in November. Over the next few months we will be receiving new models of golf clubs from all of the leading manufacturers including Titleist, Callaway, Taylor Made, Ping, Mizuno, Cobra, Cleveland and Adams Golf. The Golf Shop also features the latest design in fashion from Chervo, Bogner, Jamie Sadock, Swing Control, Sport Haley, Peter Millar, Polo, Bugatchi, and many more. We have new lines arriving in regularly, so come in and browse your new selections. Kevin Walker, your cart mechanic reminds you to make sure your cart is running smoothly. Please stop by for your 10-Point service and a thorough cleaning and waxing of your cart. Guest Play & Tee Times: Guest tee times are available for you and your guest during the season on a daily basis. Guests are allowed to play before 8:00 a.m. and after 12:00 p.m. Tee times may be available after 10:00 a.m. on lighter play days and must be approved by the Director of Golf or Head Professional. You may request tee times online via the Frenchman’s Creek Website. Go to www.frenchmanscreek.com and log into the private section of the website. Click on the tee time tab which will take you to the Chelsea Tee Time System. Tee times will be available beginning October 1, 2015. Please contact the golf shop and/or starter for any questions in regard to guest play and tee times.

Practice Facility: T he practice facility is available every day for our members and their guests for warm-up prior to your round of golf. Schedule a golf lesson with one of your instructional staff members or utilize it to improve upon your game and refine your swing. Please Note: Children under the age of sixteen (16) must be accompanied by an adult and are required to utilize the North End ( Back End ) of the practice facility located by the sales center. All children should be dressed in golf attire at all times when using any part of the practice facility including the putting green. Dress Code & Golf Course Etiquette: As a friendly reminder, members and their guests are required to adhere to the standards set at Frenchman’s Creek Beach & Country Club. We all must follow the proper dress code policy on the golf courses as well as all of the practice facilities. Men are required to wear a collared shirt at all times. No denim, workout attire, tank tops or short shorts are acceptable attire for these areas. All members and guests should follow the proper golf course rules of etiquette. We ask that you adhere to the 90 degree rule while driving your cart, please fill in all your divots with sand, rake all bunkers, fix all ball marks on the green and maintain a four (4) hour pace of play. Cell phones are prohibited on the course as well as the practice facilities. Please respect your fellow members and enjoy your golf. Handicap and Pace of Play Information As we begin our season at Frenchman’s Creek, I wanted to share with you our thoughts related to “Pace of Play” and “Handicapping” procedures. Everyone’s enjoyment of the game is enhanced immensely when we can play at a reasonable pace without having to wait on most shots. Pace of Play: In order to facilitate Pace of Play, we have directed our staff to set up the courses on Thursdays and Saturdays in a fashion that will expedite faster play. (i.e., forward tees on holes South and North; easier pin position, etc.). To encourage acceptable Pace of Play, we ask you to focus on two basic principles: Awareness and Anticipation.

3          Golf Operation News

Pace of Play

Awareness:

Awareness means being aware of where you are on the golf course and where your ball and playing partners are.

Group Position:

Be aware of your group’s position relative to those in front and behind you. Proper position is behind the group in front of you, not just in front of the group behind you. If you are more than half a hole behind the group in front of you, you should make your group aware of this and encourage quicker play. You should be aware of where your ball is and move towards it before it is your turn to hit so you can prepare for your shot. It is not necessary to stay by your partner as they hit their shots, rather you should be moving toward your ball. If you utilize a caddie, make sure they are positioned correctly and assist them to help you find balls and maintain bunkers, divots and pitch marks on the greens. If it would speed up play, consider raking your own bunker. Anticipating your next play will go a long way to increasing Pace of Play. You should examine your putts while your partners are putting so that you are ready to go when they are finished. Please minimize your time at the Halfway House.

Ball Position:

Caddies:

Halfway House:

Anticipation:

Lining Up Putts in Advance:

Playing Ready Golf: In general, players should tee off and hit when they are ready and not necessarily stand on “honor.” This also covers play through the green, as long as safety is not compromised. To ensure that the Pace of Play is respected, The Golf Committee, with the support of the Board of Directors, has adopted the following policy: Each foursome is expected to complete their round in four hours or less. We will note each group’s tee off time, players in each group, as well as their turn time and completion time. In addition our Rangers will monitor Pace of Play from various vantage points on the golf course. The Professional Staff will review daily reports and report to the Golf Committee on a monthly basis or as needed.

Handicap Information

Finally, make certain that you are at the Starter Booth at least 10 minutes prior to your assigned tee time. All of the above has been considered in the effort to create the best possible golf experience for all members and their guests. Handicapping Procedures Why Is It Important To Post Your Score? Scores should be posted after the completion of any round of golf. It is extremely important that this procedure is carried out correctly in order for games and/or matches to remain enjoyable and competitive. A player’s handicap needs to be accurate and represent their current state of play. Without posting scores on a regular basis this is not possible. Here are a few tips on how to record your scores. The most important rule on handicapping is to POST ALL SCORES. The Handicap Committee will be reviewing the posting of scores on a weekly basis to identify and monitor members who are not posting or not posting properly. On the rare occasions when you cannot post your score immediately upon completion of your round you have an alternative option to post your score via the internet through the Frenchman’s Creek website. Posting for Incomplete Rounds of Golf All scores for rounds of at least 13 holes are to be entered into the handicap computer. If fewer than 18 holes, but at least 13 holes are played, the player shall add the total score for the holes played with the total of par for the un-played holes, plus any handicap strokes to which the player is entitled to on the un-played holes. Example: If your handicap is 18 on the North Course and you have completed 13 holes, you will add 20, which is par for holes 14 through 18 on the North Course, plus an additional 5 strokes which are the handicap strokes you are entitled to for these un-played holes. This total of 25 strokes plus the total for the 13 completed holes played on the North Course must be entered into the computer for handicap purposes. All 9-hole scores are to be entered into the handicap computer. If you play 7 holes or more, a 9-hole score must be posted. All away scores must be entered. All scores can be entered via the internet as well. All tournament scores must be entered into the handicap computer with a “T” to differentiate between a score shot during tournament play and non-tournament play. If you do not complete a hole in tournament play, you must give yourself a probable score for that hole up to your maximum allowed under the equitable stroke control recommended by the U.S.G.A.

Handicap Information

Posting for Unfinished Holes If a player starts but does not complete a hole, he shall record for handicap purposes the score that most likely would have been made. EXAMPLE: A and B are partners in a match play competition on a hole which neither player receives a handicap stroke. A lies two, 18 feet from the hole. B lies two, 25 feet from the hole. B holes the putt for a three and A picks up his but because he cannot better B’s score, A records a score of four because he most likely would have two putted. Equitable Stroke Control Equitable stroke control is the adjustment of individual hole scores for handicap purposes in order to make handicaps more representative of a players potential ability. Equitable stroke control sets a maximum number that a player can post on any hole, depending on the player’s handicap. Equitable Stroke Control Table Course Handicap Maximum Number On Any Hole 9 or less Double Bogey 10 through 19 7 20 through 29 8 30 through 39 9 40 or more 10 Always play summer rules unless stated otherwise. The accurate entry of all scores is essential to maintain a fair and equitable handicap system. A member not complying with these rules will be subject to the arbitrary penalties as authorized by the U.S.G.A. handicap manual. The Golf Committee and Handicap Committee will address any and all issues in reference to the maintaining of proper handicaps. Enjoy Your Game! Note: For information on Handicapping and Rules of Golf: The USGA Rules are available online at: http://usga.org/Rule-Books/Handicap-System-Manual/Rule-04/

Golf Course Maintenance Summer Update WesDillard Dir.ofGolfCourseMaintenance

The Golf Course Maintenance staff is busy preparing the courses so they are

in excellent shape for the upcoming winter season. The first two before and after photos are of the left landing area on #4 north fairway. A slightly left tee shot often ended up in a deep depression of coarse St. Augustine grass, left of the cart path and behind an oak tree. In the first photo with the loader, the cart path and Oak tree are already removed but the steep contours are still noticeable. In the finished shot, the new soft path is raised a few feet and positioned about ten feet farther left. The old path was right of the orange measuring wheel. The new contours are gentler and golfer friendly. Paspalum turf was added to the left side of the path. Mr. Jim Fazio, the north course architect, supervised the work and shaping of this small but helpful project. The third photo is of #14 north green complex. What you may notice is that there are now two bunkers instead of one long bunker. The maintenance staff filled the narrow section of the bunker in and installed turf

to create two separate bunkers. This work was done because balls landing in that narrow area of the bunker often rolled down and rested against the turf edge. Advancing the ball toward the hole could be nearly impossible. Mr. Fazio also approved the work to this area. The staff is also evaluating trees on both courses for trimming or removal based on playability or poor turf quality from

shade or concentrated traffic. Most of this work is necessary on the north course. The greens on the south course are in excellent shape and much more receptive than when they were brand new last November. A couple agronomic issues on the fairways were addressed in spring and early summer with fantastic results. The south course playing conditions will be the best they have ever been this fall. We look forward to seeing you back on the courses soon.
