TheCKBTravelClubhasenjoyedagreat
response since being organized about
a year ago. Trips to Italy and Hawaii
were chosen by the first two groups of
travelers, with 16 people signing up for
each tour. Membership in the “club”
is free. You do not have to be a Cross
Keys customer to join, but that option
is available. About all you need is some
luggage, maybe a passport, and a
desire to travel. We will help
you with all the rest. And
you might even want to help
us in choosing our future
destinations.
The next trip for the Travel
Club will begin on July
24 when we begin our
awesome trip to the beaches
of Normandy and the
lights of Paris. This 10-day
adventure will coincide with
the 70th anniversary of the
D-Day invasion, but will be
several weeks after the June
6 ceremonial activities in
order to provide a better opportunity
to explore with the group as well as on
individual free-time excursions.
Our trip will begin with departure
from the Monroe airport, but those
who need to join the group from other
cities can easily be accommodated.
Our travel provider, Collette Vacations,
has over 80 years of experience, and
they were carefully chosen based on
their long history of hosting successful
adventures. The contact information
of your designated person at home will
be on file with Collette, so that they will
always know where you are and how to
reach you at any time.
After an overnight flight, the next day
will begin in Paris, home to world-
famous food, art, wine, scenery, history
and much more. At the airport we will
be escorted to our bus for the trip to our
hotel. While in Paris there will be tours
with local, English-speaking guides
who are either Collette employees or
who have been chosen by Collette.
These tours are included in your trip
package, but you may also have our
guide recommend alternate tours on
your own. Free time is a hallmark of
Collette, so that those with varying
interests will have opportunities to
personalize their experiences. This
ensures that you may enjoy guided
tours and also have the chance to do
your own thing.
After 3 days in Paris we will travel in
a first class motor coach across the
scenicFrenchcountryside.OurCollette
tour manager will point out items and
answer questions along the way to
the Normandy coast. Our visits to the
landing beaches will be led by a local
guidewho is an expert indescribing the
events that occurred there. Our time
here will no doubt be informational,
entertaining and emotional.
Following our step back into the
history of World War II, we will then
take a short drive and a giant leap into
the history from another era when we
learn about the Norman
conquest of England by
viewing the famous Bayeux
Tapestry. We will continue
our journey into the past
the next day in the medieval
village of Chartres.
As onmost days, wewill have
free time for lunch. Most
of our CKB travelers agree
that this is an important
and highly enjoyable part
of every trip. A common
occurrence is to choose from
several sidewalk cafes and
have a leisurely meal, dining
on a freshly prepared dish favored by
the local people. Our tour manager
will be able to make recommendations
based on your preferences.
We will spend part of the last afternoon
traveling so that we can spend one
morenight inParis, including a farewell
dinner with our new friends. The next
morning will come early as we meet
the motor coach for our shuttle to the
airport, taking with us many photos,
souvenirs andmemories. We hope you
will join us on this exciting adventure.
