The Utopian Semester 1 2014

From the Head of College

W elcome to the winter edition of the St Thomas More College community magazine, the Utopian. It is the College’s intent to produce this magazine each winter and summer in order to keep students, alumni, and friends of the College abreast of what is happening in the general life of the College as well as what is being done to secure an exciting future. I n the last 18 months since my tenure began I have been immersed in the planning for the new NRAS project which is

going to enable the College to offer future students a first-class accommodation experience. While the College has a fantastic student body and staff, there is no denying that the physical infrastructure has become very old and tired and is in desperate need of replacement. T he photograph above is an artist’s impression of what the College might look like looking across Mounts Bay road from the University. The architects have done an amazing job to retain our iconic chapel as a central feature

to the entry of the College. They have also managed to retain the majority of our line of gums that have become so much a signature of St Thomas More College. A n enormous debt of gratitude needs to be paid to the staff of the University, especially those in facilities development who have worked extremely hard and to very tight timeframes in order to assist the College to secure iits finance.
