AVOID THESE BATHROOM LAYOUT MISTAKES Magazines, TV and social media love to show us stunning designer bathrooms that make us drool. But the reality is most of us just don’t have the space and what we need, more than fancy, is functional. Here are three common bathroom layout mistakes and how to fix them. • Not enough storage. Sure, those open shelved vanities are beautiful, but they don’t give you much opportunity to hide your stuff. Much like open shelving in the kitchen, open shelving in the bathroom only works if you’re able to keep everything super tidy. • Too-big tubs. Having a huge tub to bathe in seems so luxurious, but most bathrooms just aren’t big enough. You can still enjoy a soak in a smaller tub, and your bathroom will be much more functional for it. • Making the toilet a statement piece.

Unless you have a fancy designer toilet, it shouldn’t be the first thing you see when you walk into the bathroom. The loo should be tucked on the far side of the vanity. Or, if space is limited, behind the door.

MINI PANCAKE CEREAL

INGREDIENTS : 1 cup all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon sugar 1 egg 3/4 cup plant-based or dairy milk 1 tablespoon oil or melted butter plus more for frying 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Fruits, mini chocolate chips, maple syrup and/or butter (for topping)

1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

DIRECTIONS: 1. In a bowl, combine all the dry ingredients. In a seperate bowl, combine the egg, milk, oil and vanilla. Whisk well. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Stir until the mixture forms a thick batter. 2. Transfer the batter to a squeeze bottle. 3. In a large skillet, warm 1 to 2 teaspoons oil or butter over low-medium heat. Squeeze mini circles of batter about the size of small coins. 4. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes or until the pancakes form bubbles and set around the edges. Flip with a spatula and then cook for another 2 minutes. A mini spatula may be useful for this step. 5. Transfer them to a bowl and add milk if desired. Keep in mind that milk will make the pancakes soggy if they sit for too long, so you’ll want to eat them immediately. 6. Serve warm and with sour cream, scallions and more parsley. Or enjoy all on their own!

DESIGN TIPS FOR A HAPPY, HEALTHY HOME

We can’t control what goes on outside of our homes, but we do have say when it comes to the spaces we create within them. Things like colour, proper organization and lighting can help make our home feel like an oasis. Starting with colour, there’s actually science behind how different colours impact our mood. Colour such as blue and grey can help us relax, while warm colours like orange and red give us energy. As for the clutter – get rid of it. Easier said than done, certainly. But if you create small storage centres around your house you’ll be able to stash all those odds and ends away. One great storage solution is a cute, moveable cart. If you work from home, having a place to put all your pens and paperwork that moves around as much as you do can be super handy. If you have crafty kids, use it for their art supplies. Try to utilize natural light as much as you can. Use areas near windows for both work and relaxation. Natural light helps us to focus, but it also can make us feel happier. If your home lacks windows, use layered lighting as well. Mix overhead lights with lamps at different levels, which will help to diminish dark corners.
