Unfortunately, it wasn't enough, as Tim Davis' 34-yard field goal with 2:49 remaining pushed Alabama to a 16-14 win. 1986 PENN STATE VS. 1922 CORNELL Joe Paterno's ferocious defense held the Big Red to just 140 yards of total offense and a pair of Swede Hanson field goals, while D.J . Dozier and Blair Thomas combined for 153 rushing yards and three touchdowns as 1986 Penn State cruised past '22 Cornell, 24-6. The Big Red made only three trips across mid– field all afternoon and was forced to punt 12 times. 1929 NOTRE DAME VS. 1979 ALABAMA Steadman Shealy ran for 86 yards and passed for 75 more and Major Oglivie added 74 rushing yards and a touchdown on a 52-yard punt return, as Bear Bryant's 1979 Tide downed the 1929 Fighting Irish, 27-13.
