She and her husband, Robert, live in La Jolla, Calif. ... David Schmalzla has been practicing pediatric medicine for 18 years, first in North San Diego County and now in Fallbrook. H e and his wife, Kathie, live in Vista with their five children. ... Wilson Shephard writes: "Since I was the oldest member of the Class of 1970, 42 years old at graduation, I have now earned the right to retire, which I did on Dec. 31, 1993. My wife and I moved from Coronado after 33 happy years in the area and now reside in the small town of Lexington, Va., where I received my first undergraduate degree from the Virginia Military Institute. However, it was my B.S. in accounting from USO that assured me of gainful employment for the next 23 years." ... Gertruda Simaas is a licensed clinical social worker and supervisor at the Children's Services Bureau of San Diego County. ... Dana-Maria Swaim has been traveling extensively and has a son in college. She is president of a professional association for intervention specialists and lives in Encinitas, Calif. ... Danial Wabstar is looking forward to graduating from the Episcopal seminary in Austin, Texas, with a master of divinity degree. He is founder of Mercy House Transitional Living Center, a housing unit for homeless men, women and children. UNDERGRADUATE ALUMNI Harry Hawser (M.A. '77) recently relocated to the Washington, D.C., area and lives in Falls Church, Va.... Anthony Lukas practiced law for 15 years before he and his wife, Sheila (Dixan) Lukas, started a business in December 1994. The couple and their children, Sean, 13, and MoMo, 9, are adjusting to small town life in Petaluma, Calif., after living in San Francisco.... UNDERGRADUATE ALUMNI Elizabeth Strauss-Carson has taught English literature at St. Mary's High School in Phoenix, Ariz., for 10 years. She enjoys dis– tance running, her three horses, golf, tennis and attending her son's baseball games. H er three children are: Catherine, 11, Casey, 9, and Annie, 4. GRADUATE AND LAW SCHOOL ALUMNI Laural (Patter) Klutz (M.A., M.F.C.C.) is a licensed marriage, family and child counselor with the San Diego Family Institute.
