Get Your Pretense On!

144 • Get Your Pretense On!

believed in Christ, but he had also accepted his call into Gospel ministry! Stephen and my friends were long-time drug dealers in the inner city. No well meaning, church going missionary was likely to go and tell them about Christ, nor would they have listened to them. But Stephen listened to me; we had lived together, sold drugs together, shared friends and lives together. And, when the Gospel touched my life, I could naturally share the Good News of Christ’s offer to him. As an ambassador for Christ, you must see your life (and all the relationships and connections which God has given to you) as avenues for you to provide clear and effective witness of Christ to those in your unique circle. Often we lament that we may not have been called to “full time ministry” as if the only valid spread of the Gospel is done through pastors, missionaries, and Christian workers. Nothing could be further from the truth. God has called and gifted every disciple of Christ to use their time, treasure, and talent to share the Good News with those within their life circles, their unique family, friends, and associates. Every person who recognizes us, or whom we recognize, who “owns” us and is a “relative of ours” can be prayed for, related to, and witnessed to on behalf of Christ. If every believer were to pray, communicate, and share the Good News with those in their own circle, we could touch millions more people with the Gospel, and not hire a single “full-time worker” to join the cause! Indeed, I am convinced that the key to winning those who do not know about our Lord will not be the recruitment of a new professional class of Christian workers, but the mobilization of ordinary disciples of Jesus to share with their friends, family members and associates where they live and work. This is the revolution we need, and the cause that we should seek!
