This course examines federal and state laws that impose criminal and civil penalties on health care providers for a variety of activities, ranging from payment for referrals to the submission of false claims. The focus will be on the federal and state illegal remuneration statutes, the federal civil monetary penalty and exclusion laws, the federal anti-referral (Stark) law, and the federal false claims laws.
