Lawyer as Public Policy-Maker

2 credits day; 2 credits evening.

This seminar explores the various roles assumed by lawyers in making and implementing public policy. Students will follow legislators, executives, corporate heads, NGO leaders, and academics as they work on important policy issues at the state and federal level. Significant independent research on student-selected topics will be required. Video presentations will be made at the end of the semester. Grades will be based on class participation, research materials produced to support the video presentation, and the video presentation. The course cannot be used to satisfy the legal writing requirement. Students enrolled in Contemporary American Politics may not enroll in this course.
