The Men's and Women's West Coast Conference Tournament returns to the University of San Diego and the Jenny Craig Pavilion in the spring of 2002. Last season the Torero's new facility hosted a tournament that saw Gonzaga's men and Saint Mary's women capture championships and earn automatic bids into the NCAA Tournament. In its eleventh year of existence, the tournament will remain in single elimination format in 2002. The women play their first round and semi-final games on Thursday and Friday, with the men beginning their opening round on Saturday. The women's championship aired on live Fox Sports TV is slated for Sunday, March 3. The men's cham– pionship will be played on Monday, March 4 in front of a nation-wide television audience courtesy of ESPN. The San Diego women's program has won the WCC Tournament twice. In 1993 and 2000 the Toreros won the tournament title and advanced into the NCAA's. In the 2000 tournament, San Diego forward Jessica Gray earned tour– nament MVP honors and in 1993 Torero guard Jill Shaver earned the same honor for her play elevating San Diego into their first ever NCAA Tournament.

In 2000 Melissa Glazebrook was named to the AII– WCC Tournament Team, helping San Diego to the school's second WCC Tournament Title.
