SHELLEY SHEETZ 1st Season Assistant
Shelley Sheetz brings All-American honors and professional playing experi– ence to the Torero staff as a first-year as– sistant under Head Coach Kathy Marpe. Shelley coaches the USD point guards and plays a major role in recruiting, scout- ing and practice planning.
\ Playing college basketball at Colorado, ------– Sheetz was named a Kodak All-American in 1995 . In that same season, Sheetz guided the Buffalos to a 25 game winning-streak and her team would finish 14-0 in Big Eight Conference play. After Sheetz took Colorado to the Elite Eight for the second time in her college career, the conference would name her as the Female Athlete of the Year in 1995. Sheetz was a Naismith Award Finalist, given to the best college basketball player in the nation, and the state of Colorado would honor her as the SportsWoman of theYear in 1993 and 1995.When her career at Colorado finished, Sheetz would own the all-time record for three-point baskets made in Big Eight Conference history. As a professional player, Sheetz first played in Wuppertal, Germany. When the American Basketball League was formed in 1996, Sheetz was signed to play for the Colorado Xplosion. After two seasons playing in Colorado, Sheetz was signed to play in Portland for the ABL's Portland Power. Sheetz began her coaching career in the Northwest, as an assistant atWashington State University. With the Cougars, Sheetz coached the guards, recruited nationally and was re– sponsible for overseeing the Lil' Dribblers camp and clinic programs. Originally from Ce– dar Rapids, Iowa, Sheetz was elected into the Iowa High School Hall of Fame in 1996.
