Some Remarks on Dose Limits

▪ 26 Gy mean parotid dose is still a very commonly applied dose constraints, mainly because many people are familiar with it ▪ More recent data are suggesting that the lower the dose the better, at least in terms of recovery time. Even if the dose is higher than 26 Gy, if some sparing can be achieved it may be worth trying, as the dose effect relation is not so steep ▪ Current interest in animal studies and clinical data analysis in defining parotid subvolumes that are more sensitive (e.g. because they contain stem cells)
