404545--PICASSO--Jacqueline Reading, 1957
Jacqueline lisant, 1957 Pablo Picasso
In this work we see Picasso exploiting the typically painterly potential of lithography, creating a range of texture and patterning.
Jacqueline and Picasso married in 1961, and in the celebration, he executed a series of dazzling portraits in profile of Jacqueline in both oil and lithograph. They remained together until Picasso’s death in 1973. As important as the female figure is in Picasso’s work, Jacqueline remains the woman most depicted in his work. The only of his muses to be tolerated in the studio for long periods of time, she developed a near-fanatical reverence for him as an artist.
