Homecoming '87 November 13-15 E nthusiasm is mounting among alumni as this year's big Homecoming Weekend draws nearer to its Nov. 13-15 dates. Homecoming co-chairs Elaine (Biko) Dawson '65 and Steve "Swooper" Gauvin '84 and the rest of the Homecoming planning committee are busy making final arrangements for the festivities and phoning alumni to remind them about the weekend. Committee members are especially urging alumni to attend "An Evening ofElegance" on Saturday, November 14. This alumni/student event will feature a cocktail reception, a delectable dinner and dancing to the sounds of the Fabulous Mar Deis in the beautiful new University Center. An alumni service award and an outstanding alumnus or alumna of the year will be announced . The black-tie optional evening also will feature several USD professors . 0 CATCH THE C O 0 TORERO SPIRIT! Other events on the schedule include a scramble golf tournament, fun run, football game and halftime parade, brunch and mass. All alumni are invited to attend. Those planning to come should contact the Office of Alumni Rela– ti ons at (619) 260-4819 to confirm attendance plans, or send in the response portion of the invitation that was mailed in September . Reservations must be made by October 30 . Here's a chance to find out about grad school T hink ing about enrolling in graduate school? Alumni considering advanced education are invited to attend a free USD-sponsored Graduate School Day November 4 which will feature representatives from approximately 40 graduate schools across the country . The representatives will be available to meet with prospective students from 10 a.m.-1 p.m . in the University Center, Forum A and B. For more information, contact the Office of Graduate Adm isisions, 260-4524 . D Melodious voices sought D o you have fond memories of singing with the University Choir during your student days? Would you like to have that opportunity again ? Fr. Nicolas Reveles, USD's music coordinator and choir di rector, invites alumni who like to sing to join the University Community Choir he is putting together this fall for the second year in a row. Last year some 90 alumn i, faculty and staff responded to Fr. Reveles' call and performed at the annual December alumni mass on campus . "We're inviting everyone who is willing to learn to join us," Fr . Reveles indicates. "There will be no auditions." Practice sessions are scheduled at 7 p. m. every Monday evening in the new rehearsal area in Sacred Heart Hall (formerly Camino-Founders cafeteria). Four public performances are scheduled : December 8 at the annual alumni mass, December 11 and 12 at the Festival of Lessons and Carols and a December date to be deter– mined at San Diego's new St. Vincent de Paul Center . Saturday, November 14 Intramural Homecoming 3-Mile Run or I-Mile Fun Run 10 a.m., Sports Center. Fee: $1 per person (not-shirt); $6 per person (incl udes t-sh irt). Pre-Game Huddle 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Law School Patio and area east of Serra Hall's back entrance. Food and beverages for sale. Help decorate the Alumni Association's second annual float! Football game: USD vs. Menlo College 1:30 p.m . , Torero Stadium . Tickets: $4 adults, $2 children and students. "An Evening ofElegance" (Black tie optional) 7 p. m., cocktails. 8 p. m., dinner. D Career guide now available A n updated Alumni Career Network guide has been published and is now available in the Alumni Relations and Career Counseling and Placement offices on campus. The guide contains the names of some 500 alumni located around the country who have volunteered to serve as contacts for other alums and students looking for jobs.
