Objective To Facilitate Political Literacy (PL) & work skills training in all schools using Apprenticeship Levy Funding:  There is a real possibility to tap into the unused Apprenticeship Levy fund* to address the decline in skills investment for 16-18yr olds. This could functionally support SME’s who need financial assistance with investment in workforce, skills and training – especially in rural areas.

 Too many school aged children are being excluded from mainstream schooling and unable to access the National Curriculum in any useful way that will give them life chances

 If SOUK is accredited and listed as an official “Apprenticeship Trainer”, it could deliver Intermediate Level 2 training “in house” to those pupils who would otherwise be EOTAS or referred to a PRU.  This would be known as a “Learn to Earn Apprenticeship” program facilitating PL. This would negate the need for alternatives to mainstream schooling for disaffected pupils, many of them in their final 1 or 2 years of compulsory education.  SOUK in conjunction with the schools program for numeracy & literacy, would deliver the PL program to the targeted students; specific apprenticeship training would also be delivered and developed according to the employers’ specific skills & needs requirements.

 The student performs out of school training 2/3 days per week and in school training 2/3 days per week depending on training requirements

 Pupils leave school with vocational training, a competence qualification, relevant knowledge based skills and a pathway straight into work

* see notes below. DAS funds expire after 18 months. Employers lose the money in their DAS accounts if they don’t spend the money on apprenticeship training and end point assessment within 18 months  A large % of the pupils whom are excluded from schools are from low socio economic cohorts. Earning money to stay in education will most likely be a huge motivator, as often they leave education out of a necessity to make money to survive.  Pupils can earn £4p/h pocket money for participating/opting into the “Learn to Earn” program which is paid directly to them from the school/employer depending on actual attendance.
