The Many Not the Few An illustrated history of Britain shaped by the people Written by Sean Michael Wilson Illustrated by Robert Brown In this, the first graphic novel to show the history of the union movement, an old union rep and his granddaughter spend a few days together going over some of the key moments. They start way back with the 14th-century Peasants’ Revolt, taking in the Levellers and the Luddites, the expansion of the unions in the 19th century, the height of their power in the ‘70s, and the great conflicts and decline of the ‘80s. With a mix of serious research and family jokes Joe and Arushi go into the complicated history, the ideological battles, the class conflict, a consideration of what unions are for, and what the future of unions may be. Workers ’ Play Time Seven Scripts from Seven Struggles Edited by Doug Nicholls There is a rich tradition of theatre dealing with workers’ and trade union struggles through the centuries that can go unacknowledged by the literary mainstream. Often, such plays are staged in alternative venues and too often their scripts are not gathered in any archive and are in danger of being lost. Workers’ Play Time is an anthology of seven such scripts, many of which are appearing in print for the first time.

Heroes in the Evening Mist By William Ash

Heroes in the Evening Mist is the last and previously unpublished novel by the legendary WWII escapee William Ash. This, his final novel is set in late twentieth-century, post-revolutionary Southeast Asia. A war correspondent is on assignment in a state consumed by civil conflict and revolution (rooted in the history of Vietnam). Abducted by the Communist guerrillas he soon finds that idealism trumps journalistic detachment and he becomes an active soldier in the revolutionary cause. This is a novel about loss: the squandering of a victory, the debasing of a revolution, and the human cost entailed. But it is also a story of love: a love for a people and a love of ideals that are worth fighting for. Trade Union Education Transforming the World Edited by Mike Seal This book aims to mark out new ground to bring trade union education to life. The collection features 16 insightful essays from 20 individual practitioners, each with long experience of popular-education techniques. Their contributions offer a wide range of perspectives, divided into four sections: • Key concepts and historical development • Contexts and challenges • Implementing critical education in the classroom and beyond • Learning from the world
