Support for affiliates.

4.1 A recent successful meeting of General Secretaries was held and all found it supportive and useful. It was agreed to start producing some General Secretaries’ support materials and training courses for EC members. 4.2 A number of meetings with the new Senior Finance Officer and the accountant have been held with POA and I understand they are very pleased with the quality of accountancy and audit servicing.

4.3

SWU has made alternative arrangements for their internal admin support.

4.4

We are in discussions with another affiliate about undertaking admin support.

4.5 New education officers are in place in some unions and support has been offered.

4.6 The GMB leadership team have held their second away day at Quorn and their education department has placed bookings also.

4.7

The NEU education team have held their residential event at Quorn.

Trade Union Official Apprenticeship.

5.1 Minutes of the meeting held at Quorn recently are attached and you will see that we are progressing well. The GFTU is hosting these meetings. The meeting agreed that Ruskin would provide the eventual training and GFTU become the assessment body. This would open a new modest income stream in 2020.

New use of Quorn Grange Hotel.

6.1 I am pleased to say that the entire Leader of the Opposition’s Team from Parliament held their two day Conference at Quorn recently and all went well.

POA and Community have both booked their training courses at the hotel 2019.

7

International.

7.1 Bro Cortes was able to continue our fraternal links with Vietnam and visited the Hanoi Federation of Labour during a recent visit. He will report at the EC. 7.2 I chaired the lively session on Venezuela with the Ambassadors of Nicaragua, Venezuela and Cuba at the Venezuela Solidarity Campaign AGM.

7.3 I was invited to meet the President of Cuba and the Finance Minister on their recent tour.

7.4 The Freedom for Ocalan Campaign work continues with more unions coming on board and an advertisement recently circulated for a Campaign Director.

8

Staffing.

8.1 Wendy Cheung has left us as Head of Finance to take up a new appointment in the private sector. 8.2 Two meetings have been held with the finance team individually and collectively. All arrangements are in hand. Temporary cover where required will be arranged with Andrew Pearson and the accountants have also agreed to support where needed.
