Fall 2019 Catalog (FINAL)

Mayor’s letter

Dear Resident,

I thought it would be fun for everyone to get to know me and my family and the things we like to do in the city! Myself, my wife Jacquie and our 3 youngest kids love to have fun. Fall is the perfect time to enjoy all the amenities the city has to offer. Fall is our favorite season and not just because the Chicago Bears is our favorite football team. Molly, Benedict and Josephine “Coco” love to explore different parks throughout town. Some of their favorites include Rotary Park, Hiding Spot Park and Raintree Park B. They all have different themes and the kids love to explore the different concepts that each playground has to offer. Some of our favorite activities in the fall include the Pumpkin Pull at Yorktober Fest! This festival has family activities which include hayrides, bounce houses, pumpkin decorating and more! Yorktober Fest also features music, beer and food. Our Parks and Recreation staff does a wonderful job of providing year-round original events to get everyone outside together! My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving, but we love Santa Claus and can’t wait to see him at the Winter Wonderland Festival which will take place on Saturday, November 23rd. It’s a two-part festival where you can go to Circle Center Grade School for the Winter Wonderland Festival during the day and then make your way down to Riverfront Park to the Holiday Celebration for a parade, tree lighting ceremony and fireworks in the evening! If you filled up on cookies and hot chocolate at the Winter Wonderland Festival, you can work it off the very next day at the Chili Chase 5k For the Cure on Sunday, November 24th. Growing up in Yorkville, I have always enjoyed all the events and activities throughout the season. I think of the Fall season as a fresh start. Everything from the changing of colors, to the cool nights and sunny days. I don’t mind that the mosquitos are no longer a problem either. We hope to see you at these events as well as out enjoying the parks, trails and the open space. I’m looking forward to serving the residents of this great city!

Information for all of these events can be found on the City’s website at Yorkville.il.us/SpecialEvents. For your convenience, you can register for various events online at Yorkville.il.us/register. Please feel free to contact your elected officials if you have any questions regarding any of these events, we hope to see you there!

Best regards, Mayor John Purcell
