Puppies

In the first few weeks of arriving in his new home, allow your pup to have the following experiences, making sure they are always positive so that he grows in confidence: • Introduce him to household equipment, such as the washing machine and the vacuum cleaner. • If your house does do not have children, arrange to meet some, making sure all interactions are carefully supervised. • Accustom your pup to meeting visitors to the house—particularly people who may be wearing uniform or carting unfamiliar equipment. • If you do not have a dog at home, arrange for a dog of sound temperament that is fully vaccinated to come and visit. • Take your pup out in the car for short outings. • You will have to wait until your puppy is fully vaccinated before he can walk on the lead outside your home. But you can carry him along a quiet road so that he gets used to traffic, and to meeting passers-by who will want to give him a stroke.
