Puppies

Stay It is easiest to teach this exercise with your puppy on lead so you can control him. Start by asking him to “Sit” and then stepping one pace to the side. Go back and praise him for staying in position. Repeat on the other side, and then stand in front of him and try stepping back a couple of paces before returning to him. If he is staying in position, introduce the verbal cue, “Stay”. Build this up gradually, extending the distance and the amount of time you can leave your puppy. (For more information on dog and puppy training, see the DOG TRAINING title in this series of books.) With proper planning and research, and hard work on your part, having a puppy in your family will be a fun and rewarding experience.
