ABB’s latest technology of AF contactors with electronically controlled coils offers the benefits of a traditional IEC-style contactor while still having NEMA ratings for use in UL required markets. Especially suitable for handling the switching of resistance heating and capacitor circuit loads, their compact size also fits the needs of the panel building industry. In addition, they may be used for controlling AC motors where overload protection is provided separately.

The contactor is safely operated in an always optimized condition and hum-free. • AF coil and energy consumption is reduced up to 80%. This allows a reduction of the temperature rise, the size of control transformers and size of cabinets. • With conventional contactor technology, use of an external surge suppressor is recommended.
