computers, printers, hardware, software, networks, Internet access, electronic mail, voicemail, and wireless devices including laptop and notebook computers, cellular phones capable of transmitting or storing text and data files, and personal digital assistants. 2.6 “ Official Use ” means any use required to the carry out City related business. 2.7 “Personal Use” means any use not related to the operation of the City or undertaken as part of a City approved work program. Equipment, information technology, cellular phones, and communication resources are made available to City staff to improve efficiency and productivity. While the City encourages the use of these resources, it is important that employees follow established policies and procedures to reduce potential liability, the risk of inappropriate use, and possible adverse public perception. All components of the City’s equipment, information technology, cellular phones, and communication resources are the property of the City to be used for official City business purposes consistent with this policy and remain subject to the City’s control. 3.2 Privately owned equipment, information technology, and cellular phones which are used in the workplace must also comply with this policy. 3.3 City employees shall have no right or expectation of privacy or confidentiality in any activity conducted using city equipment, information technology, cellular phones, and communication resources. All activities conducted using these items may be accessed by the system administrator and/or City management at any time. City management may also access any electronic or written records generated when employees use information technology, including deleted files and e-mail. USING CITY OWNED EQUIPMENT FOR PERSONAL USE 4.1 No City owned equipment or vehicles shall be removed from City premises or work sites for any purpose whatsoever unless related to the operation of the City or undertaken as part of a City approved work program. 4.2 Employees are prohibited from borrowing City equipment for personal use. 4.3 Employees who are unsure as to whether the use of a piece of equipment or other property is inappropriate, they should immediately consult with their supervisor, manager, director, or the Office of the City Manager.
