John Martin has been a member of the USO athletic staff since 1975. He was the school's first head women's volleyball coach , a post he held through the 1989 season , and also oversaw the Recre– ation Department. As volleyball coach , he

He earned his Bachelorof Arts in Sociology from Ohio State University in 1999, and a B.A. in Criminology in 1998. He is currently enrolled in the University of San Diego's Masters Program for Education.

As Director of Athletic Facilities, Martin oversees all the scheduling, field maintenance and purchasing. He was the department's key liason during the construction of the Jenny Craig Pavilion which opened in October, 2000 . A graduate of San Diego State (B.A. & M.A. in History), John resides in Encinitas with his wife Jane. They have two children: Eliza, a 2001 graduate of USO, and son, Patrick, a sophomore at USO. Andy is in his first year at USO in the position of Assistant Director of Athletic Facilities. Fee will assist John Martin in overseeing all the scheduling, field main– tenance and purchasing for the department's athletic venues. Fee comes to USO from Arizona State University where he earned a B.A. in Political Science in 1996 before serving as Assistant Director of Athletic Facility Operations there for the past two seasons. He has was the Facility Supervisor for the ASU Student Recreation Complex. Outside of ASU , he developed Athletics and Management skills with the NFL Cardinals , Fiesta Bowl and PGA Phoenix Open . From Scottsdale, Arizona, from Arizona State University. - Dean Aresco Strength & Conditioning Coach Dean Aresco is in his second sea– son as USD's Strength and Condition– ing Coach after comign to USO via Towson State University where he was their head coach for three seasons. Additional professional experi– ences include stints at the University of Connecticut as a Graduate Assistant, and at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in San Diego as the Interim Strength and Conditioning Coor– dinator. He earned his B.S. in Exercise Physiology from the University of Connecticut. A NSCA Certified Strength and Con– ditioning Specialist, he also holds memberships with NSCA, the U.S. Weightlifting Federation , and the American College of Sports Medicine. Andy Fee Asst. Car/Reed Director of the Jenny Craig Pavilion Carl Reed begins his third year at USO as Director of the Jenny Craig Pavil– ion. Reed came to USO from Cal Ber– keley where he held the title of Assistant Sports Events Manager for two years. A

graduate of Saint Mary's College (B.A. in Politics, '96; M.A. in Sports Administration , '99) , Reed also held athletic department positions at Saint Mary's College and with the West Coast Conference. Reed oversees the management and marketing of the building to help bring in outside events like concerts, trade– shows , etc. Carl resides in Pacific Beach.

DerekHillestad JCP Asst. Director/Events Manager Derek Hillestad begins his first year as Assistant Director of the Jenny Craig Pavilion and Events Manager. He comes to USO from Ball State University where this past year he was a Graduate Assistant for Sports Facilities

and Recreation Programs. During this time he was also a Security Control Supervisor for the RCA Dome in Indianapolis, Indiana. He also earned job related experience as an Event Operations Supervisor for Alliant Energy Center in Madison , Wisconsin; as a Program Assistant for the Department of Recreational SportsatTexas A&M; and as EventCo-Coordina– torforthe Department of Recreation Management at the Uni– versity of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He graduated from Wisconsin-La Crosse with a B.S. in Recreation Management (2000), and is currently working towards his M.S. in Athletic Administration through Ball State University.
