Coach Marpe will begin her 30th year as a head coach , and her 23rd season leading the University of San Diego women 's bas– ketball prog ram. In her career, Marpe has reached milestones aspiri ng coaches can only dream of - 352 career coaching victo– ries, 106 West Coast Conference wins, two WCC Coach of the Year awards, two conference tournament championships and two NCAATournament appearances . At the helm of the USO women 's program , Marpe has coached 11 First Team All-West Coast Con– ference players, and more importantly, 30 of Marpe's players have been honored as wee Scholar Athletes . The changes Marpe has witnessed in the game of women 's bas– ketball with the skills and athleticism of today's student-athletes , is nothi ng short of staggering . Success through change perme– ates Marpe's long and distinguished coaching career. Marpe's fourteen winning seasons and coach of the year honors in 1993 and 1998 attest to her ability to flourish in a changing athletic envi– ronment. Marpe's success comes as a result of embracing - not resisting change.

In 2000 Marpe guided the Toreros to the NCAA Tournament after capturing the WCC Tournament Championship

Marpe will once again embrace change in 2002-03 , hoping to duplicate the Torero success of recent past. Her 1999-2000 team matched a school record of 17 overall wins featuring future professional players Susie Erpelding and Jessica Gray. The 1999-2000 Toreros ran through the WCC Tournament, beating the number one seeded

Pepperdine Waves 68-51. San Diego was awarded the auto– matic bid into the NCAA Tournament, becoming the second San Diego team Marpe wou ld lead into the big dance . On February 3, 2001 Marpe became just the fourth coach in WCC history to reach 100 conference victories. She enters the 2002-03 campaign with 106 wee wins , ranking her thi rd all– time in WCC career coaching vi ctories. Marpe 's 352 overall ca– reer wins puts her in an el ite class of NCAA coaches who have won ove r 300 games in a career. As the "dean" of West Coast Conference coaches, Marpe has twice been honored as the conference 's coach of the year. She won her second award in 1998 after leading the 1997-98 Toreros to one of the largest single-season turnarounds in WCC history - an improvement of eight games. In 1993 San Diego placed second in the conference standings and fin ished 16-12 overall. Earning her first WCC Coach of the Year honor, she wou ld direct her team to the WCC Tournament title and thei r first trip to the NCAA Division I Tournament. Marpe's distinguished coach ing career began in Minnesota at Spring Lake High School in 1971 . Along with the duties of coach– ing women 's basketball , Marpe coached the volleyball and soft– ball teams as well , totaling an impressive 53-1 record in the com– bined three sports .
