WIC BREAST PUMPS WIC Agencies, Los Angeles County
All local WIC agencies are required to comply with State WIC Policy on breast pumps: • Each Local Agency must have a breast pump loan program to support breastfeeding WIC mothers at all full-time sites. • Each Local Agency must have a breast pump policy specific to their own agency, which complies with CDPH/WIC policy. Local Agencies must provide breast pumps and milk collection kits to WIC participants who need to establish or maintain their milk supply; maintain an inventory of breast pumps and milk collection kits; keep all pumps and milk collection kits in a secure location.
Procedures required of all Local WIC Agencies: • Assess needs of the participant
• Provide pumps and kits free of charge
• Issue only when the participant is postpartum
• Use a system of prioritized criteria when supply is limited
• Train staff in use and distribution of pumps • Ensure that direct service staff issue pumps within one business day of established need. (with in same day if possible).
