Physical Education (A level, Cambridge OCR) Entry Requirements: Grade 5 in GCSE PE or a Level 2 Merit in a ‘Sport Studies/Science’ qualification (eg BTEC or OCR CamNat). For students who did not complete these courses, it is expected that they achieve a grade 6 in Combined (Double) Science, or a grade 6 in Biology and a grade 6 in another Science. Sporting performance will also be considered. Course Content

01: Physiological factors affecting performance
30% (90 marks) 2 hour written exam
Skills Acquisition • Skills; Methods of practice; Learning theories. • Guidance & feedback; Memory models. Sports Psychology • Individual differences. Dynamics; Goal setting. • Attribution; Confidence; Leadership; Stress management. Sport and society • Emergence and evolution of modern sport to 21st century. • Global sporting events Contemporary issues in sport • Ethics and Deviance; Modern technology. • Commercialisation; Routes to sporting excellence.
02: Psychological factors affecting performance
20% (60 marks) 1 hour written exam
03: Socio-cultural issues in physical activity and sport
20% (60 marks) 1 hour written exam
04: Practical Performance
15% (NEA)
• Performance or coaching in one activity. • Students are responsible for obtaining video footage and creating a performance logbook during Years 12 and 13.
15% (NEA)
• Students will observe a recorded performance and then provide an oral response analysing and critically evaluating that performance.
05: Evaluation and analysis of performance for improvement
Note: A level Biology, Physics, Psychology and Sociology are all subjects that would benefit understanding. Career Links: This course offers a solid foundation for degree level studies in Physical Education and related subjects. Examples of undergraduate degrees students continue to study after studying A-Level PE include Sports and Exercise Science; Sports Coaching Science; Sports Therapy; Sports Education. It can also be used as part of your entry qualification for many other degree courses. Students who wish to continue with sports studies other than at university can consider a GNVQ Leisure and Recreation course, or the BTEC National Diploma Science (Sports) award.
