Peter Eisenman was born in Newark, New Jersey, USA, in 1932. He studied in Columbia University and Cornell University in the US, and in Cambridge University in the UK. Until he founded his own bureau in 1980, Eisenman was mostly a theorist and an architecture teacher. In 1967 he founded the Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies – IAUS and was its head until 1982. In 1985 he received the Stone Lion – the first prize – on the III Architectural Biennale in Venice for Romeo and Juliet project. In 1991 he was one of the two architects who represented USA at the V International exhibition in Venice. In 2004 he received Golden Lion for his life contribution to architecture at the IX Architectural Biennale at the same place. Питер Айзенман родился в Ньюарке, штат Нью-Джерси, США, в 1932 году. Tarek Naga was born in 1953. He is head of the architectural workshop called Naga Studio Architecture. The workshop designs private houses and hotels, public structures and objects of city infrastructure. Among its famous contest projects – memorial complex at Ground Zero (New York), the Big Egyptian Museum (Cairo) and sea terminal in Yokohama (Japan). Tarek Naga teaches at Southern California Institute of Architecture, American University in Cairo, Egypt (AUC), Boston Architectural Center. Tarek Naga delivered many reports and lectures in the US, Egypt, China, France and Japan. He participated in the Venetian Architectural Biennale in 2000, International Conference and Exhibition Archilab 2000 in Orleans (France), etc. He is a member of NCARB (The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania), and SEE (Syndicate of Egyptian Engineers & Architects), Egypt. Director of the Leeser Architecture bureau, he is widely known due to usage of new technologies in his architectural practice. The bureau’s projects arise from cultural, social and technological models that are there in the suitable situation. In their work the architects often use technologies that help push usual boundaries of understanding architectural traditions and objects, creating powerful environments in the process. While forming and refocusing common knowledge and understanding of these important objects, the architects of Leeser Architects create complex and various spatial experiences, new program relations and amazingly simple structures. Thomas Leeser teaches at Columbia University. In 2007 he won a contest for the project of World Mammoths and Permafrost museum in Yakutsk. Mark Wigley, an architect and a scientist, a philosopher and a critic is Dean of Department of Architecture of Columbia University. He was Curator of Museum of Modern Art in New York from 1988 to 2006. He authored a lot of books and articles on different issues in theory of architecture: Constant’s New Babylon: The Hyper-Architecture of Desire (1998); White Walls, Designer Dresses: The Fashioning of Modern Architecture (1995); The Architecture of Deconstruction: Derrida’s Haunt (1993). Mark Wigley is co-editor of The Activist Drawing: Situationist Architectures From Constant’s New Babylon to Beyond journal (2001).
