DISTANCE LEARNING LIBRARY SERVICES

The library is dedicated to supporting distance learners with services and programs equitable to those provided on-site students. Library Catalog : Locate Print and eBooks Students may search the library’s online catalog for eBooks and print titles housed within the Vernon College Library System. Downloading E-books : See the section, Downloading e-Books for instructions on checking-out and downloading the library’s e-books to a Chrome Book, iPad, PC, or other personal device.

 E-books may be checked out for a period of from 1-7 days.  Once the check-out period has expired, the book is rendered inaccessible and automatically returned for use by other patrons.  Books may also be returned any time prior to the date due.

 Holds: If the eBook is in use, you will be given the option of placing the eBook on hold. Once the eBook becomes available, you will be notified via email and given 2 days inwhich to check out the book before it is released from the hold. Request Books from the Main Library in Vernon Distance learners may request books from the Wright Library in Vernon. Requests may be submitted online via the “Interlibrary Loan” form accessible from the library homepage. Books will be mailed directly to the student’s place of residence. Students may return the book to any VC library/resource center location or assume postage charges (book rate) and mail the book/s to the Wright Library on the Vernon campus. A return label will be provided. Databases : Locate Articles Students may locate magazine or journal articles, reference sources, career resources, and newspaper articles by searching the databases off campus from any Internet connection. To access remotely:  Go to the Library Homepage at www.vernoncollege.edu/library.  Select “Articles” located in the main content window on the page.  Choose a subject area such as “General Research/Reference.”  Select a database such as “Academic Search Complete.”  Login with your Vernon College student ID number and PIN (without typing Chaps with the number).  Please see “Databases by Subject” for a list of databases with descriptions.
