Care of Finishes

BLACK IRON & PEWTER To prolong the life of the finish we recommend regular cleaning with a lightly oiled cloth. This range will rust if maintenance instructions are not followed. NYLON COLOURED (ASTRA RANGE) Our Astra range of door furniture is coloured all the way through so as to preserve the appearance if the product is scratched or damaged. The finish will not deteriorate & will only require washing with warm soapy water to remove any surface build-up of dirt.

KEEPING IT CLEAN Remove build-up of grease & dust to prevent corrosion & maintain the product finish according to the material finish guidelines below.

UN-LACQUERED BRASS Un-lacquered brass should be cleaned regularly using a proprietary brass cleaner to maintain its shine. Alternatively, should you wish to make the most of the metal`s natural patina, clean using soapy water & dry with a soft clean cloth to maintain its old look. LACQUERED BRASS & ANTIQUE BRASS FINISH Lacquered brass finishes should be cleaned using a dry cloth or duster & occasionally wiped with a light coating of wax polish. After a period of time products which are regularly handled can become damaged & the lacquer will break down; if this occurs the lacquer should be removed & either re-lacquered or cleaned as polished brass. ALUMINIUM All aluminium finishes should be cleaned regularly with a dry cloth or duster, washed periodically with a mild detergent & occasionally wiped with a good quality household silicone wax furniture polish. Do not use abrasive materials. STAINLESS STEEL All stainless steel finishes should be cleaned regularly with a dry cloth or duster, washed periodically with soapy water & dried with a clean cloth. Occasionally wipe with a good quality household silicone wax furniture polish. Do not use abrasive materials or acid based cleaning products. If left without Alternatively, should you wish to make the most of the metal`s natural patina you can leave the article un-lacquered & polish occasionally with a metal polish. maintenance, (with the exception of 316 marine grade stainless steel) signs of rust will start to appear. Use stainless steel screws for stainless steel furniture to avoid cross contamination.

PLATED FINISHES (CHROME, NICKEL ETC.), COLOUR COATED METAL FINISHES, ALUMINIUM, CHINA, GLASS & CRYSTAL Virtually maintenance free, but occasionally

dirt deposits will accumulate. In these instances we recommend cleaning with a cloth & soapy water, & then applying household wax polish.

ENAMELLED & PAINTED FINISHES This finish should be cleaned with a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive materials.

EXTERNALLY FITTED HARDWARE Ignore it & it will rust. No matter how good the metal plated or painted finish, externally fitted hardware needs periodic lubrication to the working parts using light machine oil such as, WD40 or 3-in-1 oil. This applies to (amongst others) door & gate hinges, locks (including padlocks) & door handles. Locks can be maintained using specialist graphite powder.

The quality finishes of the products in this catalogue can only be guaranteed if these care instructions are followed. Note: If you use any other screws apart from satin stainless or brass on oak you run the risk of the sap reacting & causing staining on the wood.
