Spring and fastener tooling

‘Stripping a thread’ is a small matter – unless it isn’t, and the benefits of a groove precision- cut to within 0.003" are lost to the end user. Similarly, the difference between ‘spring’ and ‘sprung’ is minor – on the page. It bulks larger in the failure of a spring-engaged automobile clutch. Heavy-handedness is a hazard of the service life of springs and fasteners. Their manufacture requires mastery of surface, form and machining and grinding methods. But those who provide the tooling for these specialities know something else. The strength of a spring or fastener need not be apparent. But it must be real.
