D AIRY C OUNCIL OF C ALIFORNIA R ECEIVES A UTHORIZATION TO C ONTINUE
The California Department of Food and Agriculture (Department) recently conducted a public hearing to receive testimony and evidence from the dairy industry and the general public regarding whether the Dairy Council of California (Dairy Council) should be continued. The Department must conduct such a hearing once every five years pursuant to Section 64320 of the Dairy Council Law (reference Chapter 1 of Part 2, Division 22 of the California Food and Agricultural Code). The hearing record substantiated that the Dairy Council is fulfilling its declared statutory purposes. Therefore, CDFA has authorized the Dairy Council to continue operating for five more fiscal years, through June of 2023. The Dairy Council is a State agricultural marketing program operating under the authority of the Dairy Council Law and under the oversight of CDFA. The Dairy Council is involved in activities that educate the public about the importance of milk and dairy products in a well-balanced diet. California milk producers and handlers fund the activities of the Council through an assessment of all milk produced in the state. For more information regarding this hearing, please contact Amy Uber of the Department’s Marketing Branch at 916-900-5018. For more information regarding the activities of the Dairy Council, please contact Tammy Anderson-Wise, Dairy Council CEO, at 916-263-3560.
