Scholarship Awards Dinner

The inaugural $1,500 DOROTHY GREELEY MEADOR SCHOLARSHIPS were presented by Mrs. Meador's daughters, Mary Pat Metz '71 (left) and Karen Mabry '67, to Alex Algeier, 8th; Thomas Brogan, K; and Lorenzo Dean, 6th, (not pictured). At the time of her death on June 15, 2018 – just 20 days shy of her 100th birthday – Dot Meador was the oldest living alumna of Roanoke Catholic . A 1935 graduate of St. Andrew’s Catholic School – a precursor to Roanoke Catholic – Mrs. Meador lived a life of humility, steadfastness and graciousness.

Abby Algeier (University of Mary Washington) received the $1,000 CRYSTAL SHORES MARINA SCHOLARSHIP from Crystal Shores general manager Scott Schlesser. The scholarship is awarded to a senior who lives or works in Bedford or Franklin counties, has a strong work performance and has shown academic growth during his or her tenure at Roanoke Catholic.

ANCIENT ORDER OF HIBERNIANS Father Lynch Division in Roanoke focuses its charitable efforts on RCS students. AOH is an Irish Catholic fraternal organization originally founded to help immigrants in the U.S, and was established in Roanoke in 1901. Presented by Glen David Waldis, the 2019 scholarships went to, from left, Isabella Alvarez, 11th; Chris Schaible, 12th, Alexis Potter, 7th; and Maddy King, 10th.
