Technology center opens for business

Marmon Engineered Wire & Cable has opened the 16,000ft 2 Innovation & Technology Center in Connecticut. The center is available to the 14 manufacturers that operate as part of Marmon Engineered Wire & Cable. Robert Konnik, chief technology officer, and 14 engineers and consultants will work on proprietary materials development and extrusion technology projects to support customers that require electrical or electronic high performance cables for harsh or extreme environments. Mr Konnik explained: "In general, we have prototype samples where our lab has performed some tests and the customer can then do their own tests before scaling up to larger sizes and quantities in the plant. This center has pilot compounding and extrusion

capabilities to support current customer efforts, and we welcome the opportunity to add new projects in the future." "Weobviouslycannot disclose specific details about proprietary customer designs already in the works," he continued, "but we can share that our priorities include the development of low smoke zero halogen [and] ceramic based materials to meet fire safety applications in the oil and gas and transit infrastructure cable industry segments." Dennis Chalk, president of Marmon Engineered Wire & Cable, said: "Further investment will continue as the need arises. We have always considered new products as the life blood of the Marmon EWC Group."
