is the oldest almhouse of the Poor Relief In stitu tio n opened simuL taneously w ith the d iscon tinuation of some o lder ho spitals in 1769, and in 1919 rem oved to the buildings of the abolished St. Johannes S tiftelse (St. Jo h n ’s A lmhouse), 15 and 16, Ryesgade, in the suburb N ø rreb ro . The hosp ital receives poor old people, who do no t comply w ith the general provisions in the O ld Age Pensions A c t conditional upon th eir receiving O ld Age Pension, and younger persons who on account of incurable diseases or in firm ity canno t manage for thems? elves in life. T h ey get all free bo ard and lodging, clothing, medical aid, and a small w eekly am ount for p e tty expenses necessary for them . The large w ard s contain 9 beds, the smaller s ic k ro om s 2 or 3 beds. In th e sleepingswards of the general sections 9, 8 , 7, 5, 4, or 2 inm ates are living together, according to the size of th e w ard, and common dinings and -sittingsrooms belong to each section. T he size of th e plot is abou t 2,2 hectares, and the am oun t invested rep resen ts abou t 3 m illion K roner. The hosp ital has accomm odation for the following num ber of

The section for sick persons adm its also persons from the town. T he average age is 66 y ears for men, and 63 years for women. The expenses am ounted to Kr. 1.432.760,54 in the financial year 1927—1928, and the average expenses per m aintenance day were: G eneral Section ....................................................................................
