Council Meetings.

Committee of five members to draw up a list of charges for " Parliamentary Agents, Attorneys, Solicitors, and others," in con– nection with Private Bill practice, and requesting that a representative of this Society be nominated to act on the Com– mittee. The Council nominated Sir John O'Connell to act on the Committee. Roll of Solicitors. The Secretary reported that, pursuant to an Order made by the Chief Justice, on the hearing of a report from the Statutory Com– mittee, the name of Christopher Friery, of 52 Rutland Square, Dublin, had been struck off the Roll of Solicitors. Land Commission. A report from the Land Acts Committee in reference to the obtaining of consents of the Land Commission to the sub-division of holdings subject to Land Commission Annuities was submitted, and, as recom– mended by the report, it was ordered that a letter be written to the Land Commission with a view to securing greater expedition in the disposing of such applications.

14th January. Sixteen Members present. Publication of Statutes.

It was resolved that representations be made urging the immediate publication in annual volumes of uniform size of the Statutes of the Oireachtas. Land Commission. The procedure in reference to the obtaining of consents of the Land Commission to the sub-division of holdings subject to Land Commission annuities, was referred to the Land Acts Committee. the Secretary of the Ministry of Justice stating the matter of the publication in annual volumes of the Statutes of the Oireachtas is in the hands of the Attorney-General, who is now causing the preparation of the volumes to proceed with all possible speed ; that the volume for 1923 is expected to become available at a very early date, and the others to follow with as little delay as possible. Private Bills. A letter was read from the Examiner of Private Bills stating that the Chairman of the Joint Committee on Standing Orders (Private Business) proposes to appoint a 28th January. Obituary. MR. JOHN D. COATES,

senior, Solicitor,

died on the 8th January, 1925, at his residence, Mervue, Donaghadee. Mr. Coates served his apprenticeship with his father, the late Mr. John Coates, Belfast ; was admitted in Trinity Sittings, 1879, and practised at Arthur Square, Belfast.
