21st October. Twenty-two Members present. Adaptation of Charters Bill.

BALLOT FOR COUNCIL. The Ballot for election of Council will be held on Monday, 23rd November, from eleven o'clock to one o'clock, in the Secretary's Office, 45 Kildare Street, Dublin. Voting papers should reach the Secretary not later than one o'clock on the 23rd inst. HALF-YEARLY GENERAL MEETING. The Half-yearly General Meeting of the Society will be held at Two o'clock, p.m., on Thursday, 26th November, in the Moles- worth Hall, Molesworth Street, Dublin. MEETINGS OF THE COUNCIL. 6th October. Eighteen Members present. Presentation to the Society. A letter was read from Sir John O'Connell requesting the Council on behalf of the Society to accept from him a presentation of a Presidential Chair. The Council passed a resolution accepting the gift and expressing grateful thanks to the donor. Colonial Solicitors Act. A letter was read in reply from the Attorney-General stating that the Executive Council had again considered this matter, and that they were not at present prepared to promote the legislation requested by the Council. Adjudication of Deeds. As suggested by a letter received from a member on the subject, it was decided to request the Inland Revenue, in cases of documents lodged for adjudication, that an intimation of the amount of duty assessed be sent by post to the Solicitor who lodges the document.

The opinion of Counsel on this Bill was submitted, and referred to the Parliamentary Committee to take steps to have amendment moved as suggested by Counsel. Preliminary Examinations. A report from the Court of Examiners dealing with a letter received from the Chief Justice, in reference to applications under Section 18 of the Solicitors (Ireland) Act, 1898, was submitted and adopted, and it was ordered that it be communicated to the Chief Justice. Transcripts of Evidence. A letter was read from a member drawing attention to the charges for second copies of transcripts of evidence at High Court trials. The question was refeired to the Costs Committee. Obituary. MR. GEORGE S. ROGERS, Solicitor, died upon the 8th July, 1925. Mr. Rogers served his apprenticeship with the late Mr. Robert H. Parke, of Monaghan ; was admitted in Michaelmas Sittings, 1904, and practised at Monaghan. MR. PATRICK O'HEA, Solicitor, died upon the 7th August, 1925, at Dundee, Natal, South Africa. Mr. O'Hea was admitted in Michaelmas Term, 1875, and practised at Cork up to 1895, when he retired. MR. GEORGE KNIGHT, Solicitor, died upon the 12th August, 1925, at his residence, Lackenash, Trim, County Meath.
