Lost & Found Busy summer weekends always leave us with quite a collection of lost items! Bus & Route One: Items are brought directly to the Route One office. Ferry: Lost items usually remain aboard for a few days before being brought to the office, so don't hesitate to call if you're missing something. Because storage space is limited, we ask that lost items be claimed promptly. Unclaimed items are generally donated after a couple of weeks, while perishable groceries must be discarded. You can help by labeling your bags, counting your belongings before you leave, and returning any items that aren't yours to the ferry crew or bus driver. Grocery bag mix-ups happen all the time —and this summer's unofficial favorite seems to be the reusable Trader Joe's tote bag! On the Float We all know by now that freight goes on the float and the crew will load it. CTC asks that customers load commercial freight, bulk freight or any item that requires a ticket, but please wait for the crew to call you down. We do not like to land the ferry with people on the float. Try to keep walkways clear and don’t stack freight around the cleats we use to tie up. Call the office and give us a heads up about bulk freight. Treat others’ bags and groceries as your own. Drop any other items on the stern when we are boarding, don’t come down when the crew is loading, we have a system. Leave freight on the stern and go find a seat if there are other passengers with freight getting on the ferry behind you. We are always willing to help! Ask your crew if they have an extra hand or any tips to get items on and off the ferry.
The Islander in the Big City The Islander is still hard at work in Boston! Outward Bound has been using the ferry since April and they LOVE it (who wouldn't?). While serving in Boston Harbor this season, the Islander has been supporting the Cathleen Stone Island Outward Bound School, a nonprofit that provides life-changing outdoor education experiences for thousands of young people each year. Through adventure, teamwork, and environmental learning, students develop leadership skills, confidence, and resilience. It can be compared to Ripple Effect on Cow Island that Chebeague teens have attended in the past. Outward Bound also has a presence in Maine! The Islander is scheduled to be back later this month. Take a look at their website for more information on Outward Bound:

CHEDEMPTION 2026 We had another fantastic Chedemption season in 2025! Over 2,100 CLYNK bags were shipped off the island, at no charge, by Casco Bay Lines. This removed more than 34,000 pounds of glass, plastic and aluminum from the waste stream. We celebrate the continued savings for tax payers and, more importantly, we are doing incredible recycling and making money! participating organizations volunteered in 2025 resulted in $600 for each group! We are hoping for another successful year of Chedemption and know it will happen with your help. Due to safety and insurance concerns, children under 18 cannot volunteer. Disposable gloves and hand cleaner will be inside the shed.
You do not have to belong to an organization to volunteer to help during their week. Please feel free to contact the organization of your choice or any of the folks listed below to sign up!
The Chedemption Committee is once again asking for your assistance in bagging up returnables during the summer months. The 27 hours that 2026 VOLUNTEER ASSIGNMENTS ***Volunteer Weeks begin Wednesday morning and run through Monday morning and usually run in 2 hour shifts.
