2015 Q3 LIFE@reliance Newsletter

ISSUE 2 JULY 2015

N E W S L E T T E R

Welcome

Greetings Reliance Family, Welcome to the second quarterly LIFE@reliance newsletter. I really enjoyed the first newsletter that came out in April, and I hope you did, too. Although we value all of the unique cultures among our subsidiaries, it’s also nice to have a shared place that gathers all the news among our family and shares activities, knowledge, and celebration. Speaking of which, we have three companies with significant anniversaries this year – Diamond Manufacturing Company and Chatham Steel Corporation are celebrating their centennials, and it’s Haskins Steel’s 60th. Congratulations to you all!

I want to express special thanks to everyone who participated in our first-ever company-wide wellness challenge, Reliance Walks Around the World, in May. Hopefully, that week had you on your feet more and seeing an improvement in your health. And hopefully you’re still walking more today than you were before the challenge. Wellness is one of those “big company” initiatives that’s good for us on a personal and business basis. I hope you’re motivated, as I am, to take part in the ongoing challenges as well as future Reliance-wide wellness events. There’s a lot of great information in this newsletter, so read on and enjoy. Make sure you spend a few minutes to “meet” Mike Shanley, our newest Senior VP of Operations. He’s got a long history in the metals industry, which has and will continue to be an asset to Reliance moving forward. Can you believe we’re in the second half of 2015 already? Time sure flies. Let’s make the rest of this year great! God bless,

We’re extremely proud of Chatham Steel Corporation and Diamond Manufacturing Company, which both celebrated their centennials this year. Vice President and General Manager of one of Liebovich Bros.’ divisions, Hagerty Steel & Aluminum. Having served four years in that position, he was then elevated to the presidency of Liebovich in 2009. Beginning in April 2015, Mike took on the role of one of Reliance’s Senior Vice President of Operations. He is responsible for overseeing the operations of a number of Reliance subsidiaries and divisions. As Mike continues his career in metals, his experience of having worked for and with some of the best people in the industry will be one of his most valuable resources, one he seeks to constantly renew and also draw from to share with others. influenced Mike Shanley’s start in the metals industry, or whether it was just a matter of chance and timing. After landing a temporary plant position at Liebovich Bros., Inc. in Rockford,

Illinois, though, he didn’t look back and he didn’t leave. A rarity even in an industry of many “old timers,” Mike Shanley has spent his entire career at Liebovich – actively participating in and even shepherding the company’s growth; in many ways, he himself grew up with the company. After working his way up the company ranks and gaining invaluable experience along the way, Mike became

Stop and Think Before You Click How to Avoid Downloading Malware

Dangerous Celebrities? You may not realize it, but you have a lot to fear from comedian Jimmy Kimmel and singer Christina Aguilera. Searching for these celebrities could expose your computer to a virus or some other nasty surprise according to a list of the most dangerous cyber celebrities prepared by computer antivirus software maker McAfee. It’s best to use official sites such as ABC.com, advises McAfee. Always avoid unknown third-party links.

Beware of cyber criminals! Cybercriminals sent thousands of top U.S. executives an email that appeared to be an official subpoena from the U.S. District Court in San Diego. Clicking the link in the message unwittingly installed software that captured passwords, user names, account numbers and other company data. The malware also enabled the criminals to control the infected computer remotely.

When you receive email, instant or text messages, or messages on social networks like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter: Be Cautious . Follow these simple rules to protect yourself. Stop and think before you click links, open photos, songs, or other attachments in a message from someone you don't know. Even be suspicious of links and attachments from someone within your company, especially if it’s something unexpected, like ilovepinkponies.pdf from your boss. Confirm . If you think it’s suspicious, don’t click anything or use phone numbers or email addresses in the message. Instead, use a different device and another account to confirm with the sender that the message is legitimate. Research . Do some research. For example, the executives in our example might have paused to consider whether their companies were involved in litigation that could result in a subpoena from this court. And the advice, “If you see something, say something,” applies here. If you do see a message that seems suspicious or problematic, report it to RTS or your System Administrator, who can take action including warning others what to do if they see the same thing.

Remember, be cyber safe out there!

Reliance is Going Tobacco-Free! In our continued efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of all Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co. employees, we are instituting a global Tobacco-Free Workplace Policy for all locations effective August 1, 2015. Copies of the policy are available from your local management. We encourage tobacco users to enroll in the tobacco cessation program available through Accountable Health Solutions – the program is also available to spouses who are enrolled in Reliance Rewards at no cost to you! Changes are also being made to increase the number of wellness credits you can earn by completing the tobacco cessation program. Please see your local HR representative for more information on the program and other resources available to you.

Talk to a Doctor 24/7 with LiveHealth Online During the summer months, there’s nothing better than hitting the road with the windows down, the music up, and a cooler full of snacks. Smartphones have made travel easier than ever. We use them to get to our destinations, find great eats, and try new things. Did you know that your smartphone can even help with your healthcare needs? Through LiveHealth Online, you can use a smart device or computer and an internet connection and have a face-to-face conversation with a U.S.-based board-certified doctor anytime, anywhere – whether it’s the middle of the night or the middle of your road trip. From home, at work, or on the road, you can use LiveHealth Online year-round to get medical advice the moment you need it. No appointments. No waiting. And it’s available to everyone!

How does it work? First enroll at www.livehealthonline.com or on the LiveHealth Online app. Then, each time you log in, select your location so you can talk to local doctors and pharmacies (if needed); otherwise it defaults to your home state. Click on a doctor’s photo to view their profile. Once you select a doctor, click “Connect” and in just moments you’ll be talking with them – face-to-face! A consultation with a LiveHealth Online doctor is much faster than an emergency room or ugent care visit and much less expensive, too! How much does it cost? For Reliance Rewards members, it’s just $15 per consult – that’s less than your regular co-pay. When prompted, select “Anthem Blue Cross (CA),” enter your Anthem member ID, and you’ll see the reduced cost before you’re connected. If you’re not enrolled in Reliance Rewards, you can still take advantage of LiveHealth Online for only $49 per session – still a great bargain for medical advice on-the-go! Anyone can use LiveHealth Online to get immediate help with non-emergency conditions such as colds or flu, allergies, sinus infections or bronchitis, diarrhea, pinkeye and other eye infections, urinary tract infections, rashes, etc. The doctor can assess your condition, answer questions, and issue a prescription (based on state regulations). Afterwards, you can rate your experience and even send a record from LiveHealth Online to your regular doctor.

Introducing the Q3 Wellness Theme:

BREAKING THE CODE:

Deciphering Food Labels

Obesity is the single greatest threat to public health in this century, says the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Our levels of physical activity have changed little in the last 30 years, yet our calorie intake has increased on average by 700 calories per day. Large portion sizes and more convenient food options both contribute to calorie overload. This quarter, we focus on nutrition and the importance of paying attention to food labels, and how this can help us make healthier and smarter food choices. Here’s a preview of the Quarter Three Wellness Activities: JULY - Learn about the role that food labels play with the WHAT’S EATING YOU? CAMPAIGN AUGUST - Learn how to break the code of food labels by viewing the DECIPHERING FOOD LABELS SEMINAR SEPTEMBER - Test your new knowledge about food labels and complete the WHAT’S YOUR LABEL? CHALLENGE

To help kick off our Quarter Three theme of nutrition, here’s a heart healthy recipe to enjoy at your next backyard BBQ or work potluck!

Texas Caviar Serves 8 150 Calories 77 mg Sodium $1.29 Per Serving

Employee Service Awards Kudos to the 146 employees who celebrated milestone service anniversaries in the second quarter of 2015! Reliance would not be where we are today if it wasn’t for you. Reliance in the Community

Reliance Donates Computer Lab to Workshops for Warriors

Reliance support for Workshops for Warriors and our veterans continues!

of investment in training such a workforce. Workshops for Warriors not only teaches and trains, but they also provide full support for their students and then source jobs so that graduates transition to satisfying careers and successful civilian lives. They’re working on qualifying for federal funding through the GI Bill, which will allow them to build new training facilities and expand nationally, but that’s a few years off. In the meantime, Workshops for Warriors relies solely on donors for its day- to-day operations, while the list of veterans in line for training has soared to 550+. Reliance believes in this cause and is a proud supporter, both for our country and for our industry.

Reliance’s most recent donation to Workshops for Warriors helped to build the Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co. Advanced Manufacturing Training Classroom. This 18-station computer lab was completed in early 2015 and has tripled the number of students that Workshops for Warriors can now train in CAD/CAM computer skills. A Reliance team representing several of our Family of Companies toured the Workshops for Warriors facility in San Diego last April. We met with founder Hernán Luis y Prado and several of the veteran students who are earning welding or machining credentials. We learned that although there is a great demand for skilled manufacturing, there is a lack

Houston FOC’s Walk for Life Continental Alloys & Services in Spring, TX led the charge to raise $1,000 for the American Cancer Society at the Relay for Life on May 2, 2015. TEAM STEEL was made up of not just Continental employees, but two participants from Reliance corporate and one from Metals USA – who made the three-hour drive from Dallas to take part. And just as we aim to do in our daily operations, TEAM STEEL not only met but exceeded its goal, raising over $4,700! CONGRATULATIONS and thanks to the organizers, participants, and donors for making this a great event for our Family of Companies!

As a national corporate sponsor of the American Red Cross’ Service to the Armed Forces (http://www.redcross.org/what-we-do/support- military-families) program, Reliance invites veterans across our Family of Companies to participate in the Veterans History Project (www.loc.gov/ vets) through your local ARC chapter. Your story will be saved and shared not only with your Reliance family, but it will be permanently archived at the Library of Congress’ American Folklife Center in Washington, D.C. Your personal perspective is important so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war. We salute you and honor your service to our country!
