Matlou Memorial Primary School

Mogalakwena Local Municipality, Limpopo

MAGDELINE MOKGAETJI NGOEPE’S STORY OF CHANGE Matlou Memorial Primary School is named after the late Pastor P. M. Matlou who inspired the Ga-Rapadi Village community to curb illiteracy by building a school. The school has since evolved to serve as a pillar of the community – providing information and guidance on educational-, sociological- and environmental issues affecting the area. Located in the north of Mogalakwena Local Municipality, we presently have 261 learners from Grade R to Grade 7. As Principal of Matlou Memorial Primary School, and a Grade 4

educator, I hope to highlight the impacts that the Eco-School initiative has made on the school and our community. THE ROLE OF THE SCHOOL GOVERNING BODY (SGB) When the Eco Committee organises health awareness campaigns or celebrations of special days, Mrs Masenya (chairperson of the SGB) takes charge, while Mrs Lerumo plays an organisational and administrative role. Mr Mabje of the SGB is the handyman, installing or fixing whatever requires attention. Mrs Moshidi, Mrs Mokitlana, and other

members of the Quality Teaching and Learning Campaign (QLTC), play an active role in our Eco-School initiatives.
