We started a journey more than a decade ago. A group of hardworking people with a new technology that no one had ever seen. One that had the potential to change the way people viewed safety gloves. One that could change the lives of workers across the world. We started with one industry and one glove. We changed, altered, tested, and trialed until we began eliminating hand injuries for a few large companies. Eliminated – as in zero – none. That’s when we knew we were changing the landscape of safety forever. We grew and expanded from hand protection to arm, leg, and body protection solving century-old safety problems. We did this by working side-by-side with our customers, creating solutions where others couldn’t. When our customers started asking how we could solve other safety problems, we began to seek an innovative partner who shares our values, leads the market globally, and has changed the safety industry in the same way we changed hand, arm, and body protection. Today we’re proud to say we’ve achieved just that. With the help of an innovative German PPE partner – a global leader with over 90 years’ experience – HexArmor ® is expanding our PPE portfolio to immediately include safety eyewear. This joint venture has allowed us to combine resources and address unsolved issues in safety eyewear through manufacturing, engineering, design, and technical expertise, creating the most advanced line of safety eyewear in the industry. Wearability: The Key to Compliance ® HexArmor ® safety eyewear was developed as a natural extension of our core mission: to send every worker home safe, every day. To accomplish this, we knew the safety eyewear we designed and manufactured needed to be a product workers would want to wear – PPE that wouldn’t get in the way – because we all know the safest PPE is the PPE that’s worn. The best way to ensure that eyewear is being worn? Create a product centered on Wearability ® – which is the key to compliance. The part of eyewear that gets little attention (but can have a significant impact) is the lenses. Proprietary LTX ® Lens Technology by HexArmor ® provides uncompromised optical clarity. This, combined with maximum impact resistance, makes our HexArmor lenses top class. Coatings Technology Not all lens coatings are the same. Typical dip coatings don’t allow the flexibility of anti-fog and scratch resistance to be applied on different sides of the lens. The flow-coating technique used by HexArmor ® allows this flexibility and outlasts all other eyewear on the market. Fit Architecture We take fit very seriously. Properly-fitting eyewear gives wearers confidence. It protects from dust and debris, is free of pressure points, is lightweight, and doesn’t slip. Hydrophobic vs. Hydrophilic For fundamentally different coatings that outperform anything on the market while maintaining their performance over time, HexArmor’s chemically engineered anti-fog technology absorbs moisture droplets as they hit the lens, eliminating fog. This moisture absorbing process is known as hydrophilic and is found in all HexArmor’s anti-fog coatings. Taking this process one step further, HexArmor ® uses specialized dual- action hydrophilic coatings for extreme applications that cause moisture to spread on the lens and then absorb, eliminating fog permanently. Traditional coatings in the safety eyewear market use hydrophobic technology. This technology causes moisture to spread as it hits the lens, eliminating fog. Although effective for a short period, hydrophobic anti-fog coatings are detergent based and wash off over time. This type of short- term fog protection leads to compliance issues and eyewear being treated as disposable. Flow-Coating Flow-coating is profoundly different than traditional dip-coating methods used by other safety eyewear brands. Dip-coating applies an identical coating to both sides of the lens and can sacrifice the quality of one protective property over the other. Traditional dip coatings can either be scratch-resistant or anti-fog. The combination of the two compromises the performance of each. Flow-coating technology has allowed HexArmor ® to pioneer four completely new coating combinations in the Americas that include permanent anti-fog on the interior of the lens and either a scratch-resistant hard coat or permanent anti-fog on the exterior of the lens. Our proprietary coatings are chemically formulated to perform differently than any other coating on the market – using standard,* alcohol-based cleaner on them can cause damage. The Hazardous World Of Oil and Gas Whether it’s wrenching on a valve head, tripping pipe, handling heavy tools, lifting cable reels, tightening bolts, operating machinery, doing scaffolding work, or maintaining and repairing equipment, workers’ hands are exposed to a variety of cut, puncture, abrasion, and (especially) impact hazards. There are three main categories of hazards that a safety manager must address with regard to hand protection: smash injuries, cuts and punctures, and grip issues. Applications

Impact Injuries: A Common Occurrence Companies are increasingly aware of the need for outfitting their workers with impact protection. Smashes, pinches, and contusions are a leading cause of hand injuries in oil and gas applications. As a result, more and more hand safety mandates include impact protection as a minimum requirement for most jobs. Roughly 50% of Hand Injuries Are Cuts and Punctures Cut and puncture injuries can account for up to 50% of hand injuries in the petroleum industry. Hand protection needs to offer cut resistance, impact protection, and a high level of comfort/ dexterity in order to provide truly satisfactory protection for workers. Most Lacerations Start Out as a Puncture If your cut resistant gloves don’t provide adequate puncture resistance, then they provide little protection against laceration injuries. Often, a laceration is caused by a pointed hazard poking through a glove, and then tearing across the skin to create a laceration. Impact Protection Smash Injuries: An All Too Common Occurrence

Handling heavy tools and materials is a fact of life for many workers in the petroleum industry. Consequently, painful smash injuries – which can be serious – are a frequent occurrence. Oil companies have made an effort to address this problem by including impact protection in their hand safety standards. Not All Impact Gloves Are Created Equal In recent years, “impact” gloves have flooded the PPE market. While some believe these are interchangeable, the truth is not all impact gloves are created equal. They offer varying levels of comfort, dexterity, and – most importantly – protection. Pressure Sensitive Film Impact Testing

In-House Impact Test Using Pressure Sensitive Film In addition to the ASTM resiliency tests, HexArmor ® performs thorough field studies and in-house impact testing to validate protection levels. One of these lab tests uses pressure sensitive film (PSF) to measure the amount of force transferred through a glove’s impact guard in the event of a sudden blow. PSF is a highly-sensitive and extremely thin film that reacts to pressure by creating a high resolution “topographical” image of impact distribution and magnitude across the contact area. For this in-house test, the pressure sensitive film is placed under impact guards, and a hammer is dropped to simulate a worksite smash incident. After impact, the film is removed and scanned through specialized software to reveal the pressure distribution profile. The more intense the color, the more force was transferred through the impact guard. In the real world, this translates to a more severe potential injury. PSF results are highly accurate. In fact, the U.S. Army uses the system for designing their soldiers’ vests and body armor. Cut and Puncture Resistance

Most Lacerations Begin As A Puncture

Cut protection isn’t complete without puncture protection. The materials commonly found in cut-resistant safety gloves – blends of yarns such as Kevlar ® or Dyneema ® – provide some level of protection from straight- edged hazards. However, they don’t offer sufficient protection from variable hazards such as metal burrs, wires, or slivers commonly found in oil and gas production environments. When a sharp corner, burr, wire “wicker” or, other protruding hazard comes into contact with the hand, it can penetrate the glove and scrape or cut the skin. With high-performance fiber knit gloves, the hazard will poke through the knit shell of the glove and tear laterally to create a laceration. Gloves that have cut resistance often lack the puncture protection needed to stop lacerations.

A GRIP for Any Task TP-X ® TP-X ® is a palm material that works well in oils and fluids because the surface does not absorb wetness, helping to maintain grip. Palm Coating Dips

Wrinkle Rubber Latex Wrinkle rubber latex is a flexible, non-porous palm dip that provides excellent dry grip. It offers good wet grip, but is not recommended for use with hydrocarbon and organic solvents such as gasoline as these can cause premature degradation. This polymer may cause allergic reactions in some people. PVC/Nitrile Premium PVC nitrile blend is often used in gloves designed for liquid and certain chemical resistance. It is an effective barrier against water and most watery solutions, such as detergents or diluted acids. Because PVC is 100% synthetic, it contains no latex proteins and is hypo-allergenic.

Sandy Nitrile Sandy nitrile provides a good dry and wet grip. It is lightweight, providing excellent dexterity. It also adds a high level of abrasion resistance. A good choice for incidental contact with unknown substances such as solvents, chemicals, oils, etc.

Micro Nitrile Micro nitrile provides good oil grip because of its thin, slightly tacky coating. Oils are channeled away from the surface of the tool, allowing for more contact with the surface area, which substantially improves grip.

Polyurethane Polyurethane (PU) provides excellent dry grip that offers a balance between being tacky but not too sticky. It’s a lightweight dip, helping gloves maintain a high level of dexterity and tactile sensitivity. As such, PU is good for handling small parts.

Rig Lizard ® Provides the Perfect Combination of Comfort and Safety for the World’s Largest Well Services Company Seeking the right balance of impact protection, comfort, and dexterity, the world’s largest well services company finds HexArmor ® is the perfect fit. Finding Impact Gloves Workers WANT TO WEAR When a customer agreement mandated impact protection for certain tasks, some workers at the company’s Alberta sites had to trade in the standard leather gloves they’d worn for years. Preventing Steel Shim Case Study Cut Injuries Maintenance Worker Sustains Multiple Injuries Working With Shims

While a slotted shim is a common, helpful tool for maintenance workers in oil refineries, the shim’s handy tab and corners can become sharp hazards that can cause serious injury. The often paper-thin stainless steel shims can be razor sharp and are easily capable of slicing through ordinary leather maintenance gloves, Kevlar ® , or cotton work gloves.

HexArmor ® interviewed a refinery maintenance worker who received several recordable lacerations to his thumb and index finger, as well as smash injuries to his knuckles, while working with steel shims. One recent injury required stitches. Due to the location of the wound, the worker was off the job for two weeks. After these costly incidents, the safety team began looking for a better hand protection solution.

HexArmor ® Provides Needed Protection From Razor-Sharp Shim Edges Following the injury, HexArmor ® provided the same worker with a pair of Chrome Series ® 4026 mechanics’ gloves. While performing routine maintenance using a metal shim, the worker almost received an identical type of cut from the shim that he had suffered before.
