6.7.4 The Check Mark

The outgoing runner should measure out and place a check mark to denote when to begin running as the incoming runner hits the check mark. There is not a set distance for the check mark and it will be determined by the speed of the incoming runner against the speed of the outgoing runner. If the incoming runner cannot catch the outgoing runner the check mark is too far away and if the incoming runner sprints past the outgoing runner the check mark is too close.

Perfecting the check mark distance will take a lot of practice over the full distance of the relay.
