PURPOSE STATEMENT FOR NATIONAL CERTIFICATION The Case Management Society of Australia and New Zealand and Affiliates (CMSA) is committed to advancing the profession, profile and practice of contemporary case management and recognises that the National Certification of case management practitioners and professionals is the next step in professional recognition and development for the many individuals who are employed within the specialist area of case management in roles (practical, managerial or theoretical) within academia, health, insurance, education, research, welfare, social and human service settings and private practice within Australia and New Zealand. Certification encourages accountability and ensures consumer protection is a case manager and/or agencies highest concern. It underscores a case managers ability to work effectively in today’s multidisciplinary team environment and is important for reassuring consumers, employers and funding bodies that the practitioner has met a nationally recognised standard of practice and has the necessary skills, qualifications, knowledge and experience to perform this specialist role. It is the reverential belief of the CMSA that through the attainment of a nationally recognised minimum practice standard by all practitioners and agencies, and a mandated compliance with the National Standards and National Code of Ethics for Case Management, this will provide a preface for fundamental changes within the profession, thus increasing the quality of the case management services and outcomes for the consumer and/or their representative, throughout Austarlia and New Zealand. COMPLIANCE WITH THE NATIONAL STANDARDS AND NATIONAL CODE OF ETHICS FOR CASE MANAGEMENT All Certified Case Managers™ agree to commit to read, understand, utilise and apply the CMSA National Standard of Practice for Case Management (3rd Revised Edition, 2013) and National Code of Ethics for Case Management (2nd Edition, 2013) within all of their day-to-day professional interactions with their colleagues, the community, consumers and/or representatives, key stakeholders and their employer.. The Vocational Pathways to Certification (i.e. application pathways) serve as a checklist of the minimum pre-requisite criteria an individual must first meet in order to be eligible to apply for registration as a Certified Case Manager™ In order to apply for National Certification an individual must first meet all of the eligibility requirements within one (1) of the four (4) Vocational Pathways to Certification (Practising or Non Practising) as listed below: To be eligible to apply via this pathway an individual case management practitioner must have each of the following: • the CHC82015 Graduate Certificate in Client Assessment and Case Management OR KPMG Case Management Fundamentals OR PhD in case management OR Masters degree in case management (excludes Graduate Diploma); • copy of Curriculum Vitae (CV); • two (2) years FTE (3648 hrs) vocational case management practice experience; and • two (2) professional referees. • Full Time Equivalent (FTE) calculations are based on 38 hrs per week over 48 weeks. • Vocational case management experience must be recent. An applicant must demonstrate they have practised for at least 12 months (1824 hrs) in the last 3 years. • Referees must have been in professional working relationship with the applicant for at least 6 months in the last 3 years and familiar with the applicant’s professional practice (i.e. practical, managerial or theoretical) and their certification application. • Full Time Equivalent (FTE) calculations are based on 38 hrs per week over 48 weeks. • Vocational case management experience must be recent. An applicant must demonstrate they have practised for at least 12 months (1824 hrs) in the last 3 years. • Referees must have been in professional working relationship with the applicant for at least 6 months in the last 3 years and familiar with the applicant’s professional practice (i.e. practical, managerial or theoretical) and their certification application.

2. your vocational case management experience in chronological order commencing with your most recent position including: the dates you commenced and ceased employment in each position (in month and year format MM /YY), your position title, your employers name (company name) and location (suburb, city/town, state). ² Vocational case management experience must be recent. An applicant must demonstrate they have practised for at least 12 months (1824 hrs) in the last 3 years. ³ Referees must have been in professional working relationship with the applicant for at least 6 months in the last 3 years and familiar with the applicant’s professional practice and their certification application.

IMPORTANT ~ PLEASE READ:

(i) All information must be typed into each CCM form (not handwritten).

(II) Each CCM form must be printed off and signed by the individual completing the form.

(ii) Each CCM form must be certified by a Justice of the Peace (JP).

(iv) Each CCM form must be scanned into a PDF file.

Obtaining a “certified copy” requires you to (i) make a photocopy of the original form or document - this is the copy that is to be certified as “a copy of the original document” by a JP (ii) Provide the JP with the original form or document and a photocopy of the original form or document (iii) ask the JP to certify the photocopy “as a copy of the original document”.

CERTIFIED CASE MANAGER (CCM) FORMS The following Certified Case Manager (CCM) forms are submitted to the CMSA as evidence (proof) of an applicant’s stated level of skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualification; pursuant to the nominated application pathway i.e. Certified Practising Case Manager™ (Pathway 1, 2 or 3) or Certified Case Manager (Non Practising)™ (Pathway 4).

The CCM forms support an individual’s application and are essential for the CMSA to authenticate an application and determine if an applicant meets all of the pre-requisites for National Certification.

Important: The CCM forms will vary depending on an individuals nominated application pathway i.e. Application Pathway 1, 2, 3 or 4 and may be downloaded from the CMSA website ABOUT PROFESSIONAL TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT (PTD) INTRODUCTION Consumers of case management services have the right to expect that Certified Case Managers™will provide services in a professional, competent, ethical and effective manner in accordance with the nationally recognised best practice standards, as described within the National Standards of Practice for Case Management (3rd Revised Edition, 2013) and National Code of Ethics for Case Management (2nd Edition, 2013). Continuing professional development is an interactive process to maintain and extend a case management practitioner or professional’s knowledge, expertise and competence throughout their career and is fundamental in the provision of safe and effective services. The CMSA defines Professional Training and Development as the movement along the continuum of competence required by case management practitioners and professionals, to provide services based upon evidence of effectiveness and best practice. This can be achieved through formal or informal instruction and learning. Active engagement in Professional Training and Development (PTD) activities is a means by which members of the CMSA, and the case management profession, maintain, improve and broaden their knowledge, expertise and competence as a means to develop the personal and professional qualities required for the specialist practice of case management.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTIFIED CASE MANAGERS™

KEY POINTS All Certified Case Managers™ must undertake the pre-requisite hours of Professional Training and Development (PTD) over a three (3) year term as a requirement of registration. This standard is set out in the Pathways to Certification for Certified Case Managers™ and the Re-endorsement process for existing Certified Case Managers™ The PTD activity claimed must be directed towards maintaining and improving a practitioner or professional’s competence in case management practice. Continuing PTD activities should have clear goals and outcomes. A PTD record should be kept to document details of activities completed. In addition to a written PTD record, practitioners and professionals must keep evidence of completed PTD activities in a PTD portfolio. This evidence should be retained for a three (3) year period and must be available for audit upon request by the CMSA. All case management practitioners or professionals applying for National Certification (via Pathway 3 or Pathway 4) will be required to submit details of seventy two (72) hours of PTD activities in the past three (3) years upon application to the CMSA. This information is entered into the PTD Form A and PTD Form B. All case management practitioners or professionals applying for Re-endorsement as a Certified case Manager™ (Year 4) will be required to submit details of twenty four (24) hours of PTD activities in the past three (3) years - backdated from the date of their previous endorsement (i.e. registration date) as a Certified Case Manager™ This information is entered into the Re-endorsed Certified Case Manager™ Professional Training and Development (PTD) Form Periodic audits will be undertaken by the CMSA to ensure that Certified Case Managers™ are compliant with the registration requirements for National Certification. If audited a Certified Case Manager™ must produce their PTD portfolio of evidence within twenty eight (28) days, from the date of notice issued by the CMSA to substantiate all claims of PTD activities as recorded within PTD Form A and PTD Form B or the Re-endorsed CCM Form. EXAMPLES OF PROFESSIONAL TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT (PTD) ACTIVITIES All activities must be relevant to the practitioner or professional’s vocational role (i.e. practical, managerial or theoretical) pursuant to case management. • Self-Assessment of professional practice through the participation in [as Supervisor] or completion of [as case management practitioner/professional] the National Self Assessment (NSA) for case management; full or part thereof. Please note: the e-publication [read only] is available in the CMSA E-library [available to Members only]. • Conferences, congresses, conventions, courses, forums, lectures, seminars, workshops and other professional educational activities presented by the CMSA and/or under the auspices of academic institutions, commercial establishments or other professional bodies. • Educational activities provided by the applicant’s employer or practice entity, either in-house or externally by individuals or organisations engaged by the employer and relevant to the applicant’s practice area or case management role. • Tertiary courses presented by educational institutions. This may include a Certificate/Graduate Certificate or Diploma (either in full or part thereof) from an approved Registered Training Organisation. • Self-study courses, training and programs facilitated by the CMSA or an approved provider, including E-learning and distance education. • Preparation/publication of papers/articles [scholarly or peer reviewed]. • Oral presentation/s or panel membership for a professional audience. • Self-directed e-learning activities (e.g. TED Talks, YouTube, iTunes U, Google Scholar). • Membership of, or contribution to, a Specialist Interest Group (SIG). • Industry presentations - face-to-face or by technology (e.g. Vodcast, Podcast, webinars, video conferencing, Internet, Go-To- Training etcetera). The above list should not be considered exhaustive ~ its purpose is to provide examples of the range of activities that may constitute as PTD. If in doubt as to the validity of an activity an applicant should contact the CMSA for feedback. The following are examples of activities that qualify as PTD activities:

These Guidelines should be read in conjunction with the information available at www.cmsa.org.au via the Navigation Menu: Certification. It is an obligatory requirement for each applicant to read in full all of the information within the Guidelines prior to submitting their online application to the CMSA. THE FOUR (4) STAGES OF THE APPLICATION PROCESS Each stage of the application process will vary depending on the volume of all Certified Case Manager™ (CCM) applications being processed by the CMSA National Certification Team at the time. Please refer to the standard processing time as stated below in stages 1 - 4.

STAGE ONE (1) Application is submitted online to the CMSA.

Fees paid in full upon application. [Fees include an Application Fee and Year 1 Registration Fees]

A redeemable voucher code must be used by an applicant when the application fee has been pre-paid by their employer for any discounts to be applied to the fees. Other: The CMSA recommends an applicant visits the Contact Us / CMSA Business Hours (www.cmsa.org.au) for any office closures that may delay the processing of an application. If an application is urgent please contact the CMSA to discuss fast tracking the review and processing of an application prior to or following any office closures. Please refer to Stage Two for further details. STAGE TWO (PROCESSING TIME 3 - 6 WEEKS) Application is received by the CMSA and the applicant receives an automated system generated email (including a copy of the tax invoice) upon submitting the online CCM Application (i.e. order). If an applicant does not receive the aforesaid email to their inbox please contact the CMSA to confirm the application has been received. The non-receipt of a system generated email from the CMSA may indicate that a CCM Application/Order was not correctly completed and/or submitted by the applicant and therefore not received by the CMSA. Application is appraised and authenticated by the CMSA. Depending on the number of applications in progress and/or office closures this process may take up to six (6) weeks. In the event an application is urgent please contact the CMSA to discuss fast tracking the review and processing of an application. As a rule CMSA will endeavour to process a CCM Application within three (3) business days. If an application is deemed incomplete or insufficient information has been provided the applicant is contacted by the CMSA by email and advised of the deficits and asked to furnish the CMSA with the required documents and/or information necessary to process an application.

STAGE THREE Applicant is invited by the CMSA (by email) to undertake the online multiple choice examination.

Applicant is successful in completing the online examination [i.e. achieves 100% score for each of the seven (7) examination modules]

Applicant continues to re-sit the online examination until a 100% pass is achieved for each of the seven (7) examination modules.

Applicant completes the following online forms:

1. Certified Case Manager™ (CCM) Register (optional details) online form for publication on the CMSA website.

2. Delivery Request Form for delivery of their testamur and/or lapel pin.

The email of invitation sent to the applicant by the CMSA includes the login details and instructions to access the CCM Online Examination Platform. Deadlines for the completion of the online examination may apply to individuals whose application is funded (i.e. paid for) by their employer. Individuals with funded applications will need to check with their employer as to any external time restrictions placed on the completion of the online examination; pursuant to the Terms & Conditions of your employer funded application.
