About the Programme This programme philosophy values the concept of positive ageing and the unique individual characteristics of the older person. This exciting programme will provide you with the opportunities to develop knowledge, clinical skills and professional networks to provide contemporary models of age attuned care across diverse settings. The range of topics covered include: Frailty • Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment • Nursing management of Pain, Wounds, Nutrition and Medications • Safe-guarding and mental capacity • Ethics. Course Delivery The structure of the programme delivery is blended which incorporates a mixture of online and some face-to-face classroom sessions (5 college days). This provides greater flexibility and allows students to work at their own pace. Entry Requirements This programme is open to Registered General Nurses, Registered Intellectual Disability Nurses and Registered Mental Health Nurses with a minimum of six months post registration experience (excluding courses) and at least three months experience working with older people. Applicants need to hold active registration on the professional register maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.

About the Programme The PG Certificate – Medical/surgical pathway 3 is a very practically based programme. It provides registered nurses with an opportunity to advance their clinical practice-based skills underpinned by current evidence based theoretical knowledge and professional guidelines that apply to medical and/or surgical patient care contexts. Students described the first module (research) as very valuable in developing their ability to critically appraise research and its application to nursing practice as well as to each module that was undertaken thereafter. Following the last module students felt that it “empowered” them to manage more effectively the moral challenges they encountered in every day clinical practice. Course Delivery The structure of the programme delivery is blended which incorporates a mixture of online and some face-to-face classroom sessions (2 full days and 6 half days in college (5 days full time equivalent)). This provides greater flexibility and allows students to work at their own pace. NURSE/MIDWIFE PRESCRIBING

About the Programme The Postgraduate Certificate Nurse/Midwife Prescribing will give you the theoretical and practical knowledge to be competent in medication management. The course complies with the statutory, professional and interdisciplinary framework for the development of expertise in the area of prescriptive authority. Entry Requirements • Up-to-date registration with The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland. • Minimum of 3 years post-registration clinical experience (within the past 5 years with at least one year in the area in which prescribing is proposed and excludes time spent undertaking further post registration programmes). • Possession of competencies recognised at Level 8 of the NQAI framework. • Demonstration of continuous professional development and ability to study at Level 8. • Support from employer and completed Site Self-Declaration Form. • Nomination and confirmation of a designated medical practitioner mentor (completed Site Self-Declaration Form, signed by the Medical Practitioner/Mentor).
Course duration: 6 months consisting of 11 days theory and a practical element of 96 hours achieved through mentorship in the clinical setting. The clinical element of the course is provided is your dedicated medical practitioner who will act as your mentor.

This provides greater flexibility and allows students to work at their own pace. PG students from other programmes (including international students) join some modules. This increases the cultural diversity in relation to Health Care Provider backgrounds which in turn further enhances discussions and cross fertilization of ideas around nurse-led clinical practice decision- making within private, public, Irish and American-led and other health service providers. RECOVERY-FOCUSED MENTAL HEALTH NURSING PRACTICE

About the Programme This programme invites and challenges mental health nurses to think critically and creatively about their work with people experiencing mental health difficulties. The programme is underpinned by the principles and values of recovery – a key concept in mental health care delivery. The programme consists of modules dealing with different aspects of mental health nursing practice, organised within the parameters of the five roles of the clinical nurse specialist. Methods of assessment are varied, and include presentations, case studies, reflective assignments and assessment of competencies at clinical nurse specialist level. There are no written examinations. The programme facilitates mental health nurses to engage with lifelong personal and professional development through flexible modes of learning incorporating online and face-to-face teaching and learning strategies. Course Delivery College attendance during the year is from late August until early April the following year with approximately 20 days attendance spread over that period with – on average - either 2 or 3 days’ attendance per month. Entry Requirements Applicants must be Registered Psychiatric Nurses and should normally: (a) hold active registration on the Psychiatric Nursing division of the professional register maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), or be eligible for such registration as required for the programme. (b) have clinical practice experience opportunities (and support structures) as required for the programme. (c) have a minimum of one year of post-registration experience (excluding courses), of which at least six months experience in the area of mental health care.
Course duration: The programme runs for almost a full calendar year, starting with a two- day orientation in late August (which students must attend), and finishing with the submission of a clinical assessment of practice booklet in mid-August of the following year.

PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING
POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE
About the Programme The overall aim of this level nine programme is to develop informed and skilled public health nurses. On successful completion of the programme, participants can apply to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland for registration as a Public Health Nurse (RPHN). Course Delivery Students undertake eight modules to the value of 60 credits. The are four blocks of placement with a registered public health nurse in the sponsoring HSE area. Maternity placement of five weeks will be in Cork University Maternity Hospital. Entry Requirements The recruitment and sponsorship of student public health nurses is a national joint application process between the Higher Education Institutions (HEI) and the HSE. Requirements may vary slightly from year to year depending on HSE needs. However in general to apply for this course: • Your name will be in the General Division of the Register of Nurses. • You will also have evidence of a minimum of 3 years post-registration general nursing experience within the past 7 years, working 39 hours per week, or its equivalent within the last 7 years. • If your name is not registered in the Midwives Division of the Register, you will complete a Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) approved module or unit of study on maternal and child health as part of the course. • You will have undertaken a course of study at National Framework of Qualifications academic level 8 (Honours Degree or Higher Diploma) or provide evidence that you can perform at this level, satisfying the college that you have the ability to complete the course. • If English is not your first language, fluency must be demonstrated (ILETS 6.5 or higher). • Admission to the course will be subject to a joint HSE/HEI application process.

Course duration: This is a one-year, full-time programme, usually running from September to June inclusive each year. About the Programme The aim of this part-time programme is to challenge nurses to think critically and creatively about practice nursing. The programme will enable students to develop their knowledge and skills in order to keep pace with developments in the field of primary care. Course Delivery The Postgraduate Diploma in Practice Nursing will be delivered in blended learning format (online and face-to-face workshops) over two academic years. This programme offers healthcare professionals a flexible way to study while continuing to work and validate their professional experience. COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY About the Programme The Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a part- time two-year programme. It is aligned with the British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and individuals who successfully complete this programme will have met the minimum training standards and can apply for individual accreditation. It is possible to exit after completing the first year with an award of Postgraduate Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (although this will not meet all the requirements to be accredited as a CBT Therapist). Entry requirements Applicants for the Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy will normally: 1. Have an Honours Primary Degree or an equivalent qualification in a relevant subject (e.g. Nursing, Medicine, Social Work, Clinical Therapies, Special Needs Education or other allied disciplines) 2. About the Programme The Higher Diploma in Midwifery is a full-time programme for qualified general nurses. The programme leads to registration with The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland as a registered midwife. Successful applicants receive a contract of employment from the HSE for the duration of the programme which leads to registration as a midwifery with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland. Course Delivery Students take 50 credits in Year 1 and 40 credits in Year 2. The course is full-time and offered in partnership with Cork University Maternity Hospital. Entry Requirements Hold professional registration as a general nurse with The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland or be eligible for such registration. Course Duration The programme duration is 18 months and is offered on a continuous basis with students commencing the programme in either September or March.

MSc IN NURSING AND HEALTHCARE QUALITY IMPROVEMENT (Fully online) About the Programme The MSc in Nursing and Healthcare Quality Improvement is an online programme that offers a flexible online approach to learning, designed to allow Registered Nurses to undertake their studies while working simultaneously. Course Delivery This part time online degree programme consists of seven 10-credit modules, and one 20-credit module. Each 10-credit module will be delivered over a six-week period with one module delivered at a time. Five 10-credit modules to the value of 50-credits in Year 1 must be completed before registering for Year 2. Two 10-credit and one 20-credit module (Dissertation) will be delivered in Year 2. MASTER OF SCIENCE IN NURSING (ADVANCED PRACTICE NURSING) About the Programme The MSc in Nursing (Advanced Practice Nursing) is available as a part-time programme completed over two academic years. The programme is designed to prepare participants as autonomous practitioners, who are clinically competent and skilled in the delivery of high quality direct care. About the Programme The Doctorate of Nursing Programme was launched in 2010. The curriculum is planned to develop the knowledge and skills of individual nurses to function effectively as advanced leaders in academic and service settings and to be nurse practitioners at the highest level of practice. Course Delivery Part 1 is taken over 18 months. Candidates will take 6 modules (120 credits). Part 1 must be completed successfully before proceeding to Part 2. Part 2 comprises the doctoral thesis (40,000 words) with 150 credits undertaken during the last 18 months of the programme. The total credits for the degree is 270 credits. PhD NURSING/MIDWIFERY About the Programme The purpose of the PhD in Nursing/PhD in Midwifery degree programme is to prepare scholars who will discover and extend scientific knowledge that advances the science and practice of nursing, midwifery and healthcare.
