SURFACE TOWSUMMARY
SURFACE TOW – SUMMARY
Installation of single or twin lines Use of recoverable external buoyancy PE line Lengths up to 8 km (5 miles) State of the art DP positioning during lowering Concrete coating for final stability Small tugs – available on short term market Proven on outfall Now used for landfall of SPM lines
Any questions?
Surface tow requires either separate buoyancy tanks which are time consuming to flood and release, or as shown here in the proprietary Flow-Lay method, use of a continuous PE line. Lines are limited to flowline lengths of about 8 km (5 miles), or the larger-diameter, shore approaches of SPM lines. This is dependent on currents and the capability of the tug DP system. Concrete coating can be applied for the final seabed stability. Small tugs can be used which do not require long-term prior booking and are far cheaper than those needed for CDT.
