Trafika Europe 11 - Swiss Delights
Matteo Terzaghi
Soon thereafter we were strolling through the city, backpacks over our shoulders. Stopping in a small grocery, we ordered sandwiches and were offered either meat or cheese, but as the grocer pointed at two rectangular blocks with the tip of his knife we couldn’t discern any difference between the two. We continued our voyage aboard a windswept ferry, the sunshine doubled between sky and sea, and we were brimming with joy. Whatever happened to the newspaper clipping of the picture that so lightly launched us on that journey? Whatever happened to the girl I’d traveled with? I don’t know, but that image has stayed with me—the train with the lights on in all but one of its compartments, in a deserted, spectral station, the silent scene unfolding within—and I treasure the memory.
