CONNECTING THE INSTRUCTIONAL PRIORITIES TO BEST PRACTICES FOR DIGITAL TEACHING AND LEARNING “As technology continues to evolve, the conversation must remain focused on learning and pedagogy -- not devices.” (Sheninger & Murray, 2017) All stakeholders benefit from the digital teaching and learning (DT&L), or the innovative use of technology in schools and classrooms to support student achievement. DT&L empowers teachers, students, and other stakeholders to gain the knowledge and skills needed to adapt, create, consume and connect with the broader world in preparation for meaningful life opportunities. Although the availability of educational technology tools is ever-expanding, “digital [teaching and learning] is not about flashy tools; it is a strategic mindset that leverages available resources to improve what we do while anticipating changes needed to cultivate a school culture focused on efficacy” (Sheninger, 2019). Teaching with technology is about creating new opportunities to reach all students using the tried-and-true instructional strategies prioritized in the CSD MTSS Framework and ensuring that the primary focus of digital teaching and learning continues to support your learning intentions, not just the technology tools. The Best Practices for Digital Teaching and Learning directly align with CSD’s behavioral and academic instructional priorities, and were identified to support teachers as they determine when to integrate technology into their classroom and classroom experiences. The TPACK Framework and SAMR model both support educators in their technology implementation.
